Sara + Joey

Happy Wednesday everyone! Thank you for being so patient as we work out the remaining kinks resulting from the hacking and subsequent rebuilding of the site. We’re almost done, and moving back to a platform that works much better for us.

What’s especially fantastic is that this means Real Weddings are back! Yay! Today we are starting things off right with the wonderful wedding of Sara and Joey. An adorable couple who met their freshman year of college, Sara wanted to have a “fun, whimsical, and romantic-themed wedding. . . I liked the idea of keeping some things traditional, but putting my own twist on them to make them meaningful for us.” Oh boy, did they deliver. This gallery is phenomenal – all the adorable details, and DIY touches. I want to get married again and do it just like this!

Alisha + Scott

This wedding has it all. Love, succulents, pink roses, chandeliers in the trees, an awesome pedicure, and a sweet backyard location, just to start. Mason jar accents abounded, and a great ceremony was followed by an even better reception. Occasionally when I come across weddings featured in the vast blogosphere, I’m concerned they may be too ambitious – is it really possible to recreate the stunning details that are shown in all these beautiful photographs? With Alisha and Scott’s wedding, you get the best of both worlds with a wedding that photographs so beautifully it looks like a completely different world, and it’s filled with DIY elements and projects anyone can do.

Today’s wedding. . . just makes me smile so much. I adore the black, white, pink, and green color palette, love the vineyard location, and the couple just exudes the happiness that comes along with one of the biggest days of your life. So I’ve spent most of today smiling. The day was punctuated by the sweet DIY details created by the couple, and the wedding was one surrounded by love and warmth.

We would love to hear about your wedding, so please stop by our survey page and take our 2012 Reader Survey. We use this to get a read on what you like, don’t like and want to see. We are excited to see your answers!

April + Eli

Every so often everyone get a case of the Mondays, and mine are in full force today. Thankfully, today’s wedding is one heck of a party, and it’s just the pick-me-up I need to kick my Monday blues. April and Eli were married in Vegas, and the bride bucked traditional by wearing a rockin’ red dress. It fit in well with the vibrant color scheme of red, purples, and oranges. The couple DIY’d several decor details, and they ended the evening by dancing on the tables and set up great lighting to really set the mood for their reception.

Torina + Matt

Ohhhhhh Friday. So nice to see you. Full of weekend promises and plans . . . and hopefully some nice weather (fingers crossed!). To send you off right, we have the  charming Washington state park wedding of Torina and Matt.

Recently I’ve seen quite a few city and state park weddings submitted to us, and I’m loving how creative they are. Many couples are starting with a raw space that has very few amenities. This enables the couple to build their wedding vision from the ground up, and the results are always spectacular – every details is infused with what makes that couple unique. It’s the ultimate DIY personalization.

Matt and Torina had an outdoor ceremony with their reception at the park’s Log Hall, and Torina crafted every detail that they didn’t use a vendor for, herself. This included the photo booth props, the seating chart, centerpieces, and other decor elements. Finally, even though she didn’t make them herself, she rocked a rather adorable pink pair of sparkly Toms.

Have a great weekend!

Ashley + Erik

Today’s wedding has. yellow. suspenders. I love these, and I didn’t even know it until I started writing this post and flipping through the gallery for inspiration! Ashley and Erik’s grey and yellow wedding was full of those sweet, inspirational details that us DIYers love to see and commit to our own arsenal. First up are the aforementioned suspenders that Erik and his groomsmen donned with their grey suits – the yellow is the perfect accent of fun. Then, you have the cute table number cut-outs, which are so simple and make a huge statement. The Izze sodas at each place setting as favors are a great touch, and the cake table? Adorable. I’ve never seen a dessert table that was exclusively bundt cakes, and I dig it. Finally, we have the photobooth, which is always a big hit at weddings. Ashley and Erik used a simple red background, and how guests used the props were what made the photos memorable.

All in all, a sweet way to start your Thursday with color and love.

Trevor + Lauren

All that sunshine I was so pumped up about yesterday? Sadly, it has been replaced with clouds and impending thunderstorms (weather in the Pacific Northwest is so bizarre sometimes) for the rest of the week. However, we have a stunning California beach wedding coming your way today, so all is not lost! One glance at all the red, blue, and sunny goodness is enough to turn any frown upside down.

Lauren and Trevor were married on the beach in Dana Point, and put their own unique DIY spin on a beach wedding. Lauren is a partner in her own design and event coordination company, so she went all out for her wedding. She worked with a designer to create her wedding dress, as well as those of her bridesmaids, which allowed her to incorporate elements of her dress into their gowns. She also crafted her own headpiece, and used reclaimed wood to construct the ceremony for the aisle. Favors for the guests were mugs with chalkboard labels, and Lauren had them double as a seating chart by attaching table numbers to the handles. For centerpieces, Lauren drilled holes in the remaining reclaimed wood and filled them with succulents and flowers.

Karla + Frankie

Karla went all-out with the DIY details for her late summer wedding to Frankie. She took great inspiration from the internet for their wedding, and infused aspects of their personality into the decor to make the wedding day truly all about them. After spending time on Etsy and following wedding blogs, she brought their vintage wedding to life with handmade banners, signs, personalized cuff links for Frankie, gorgeous tea cups for aisle markers, and adorable bird toppers for their cake.

Sos + Jessica

To kick off the weekend, we have a wonderful Michigan wedding full of rustic details and sweet, sweet love for you. Sos and Jessica had an outdoor wedding with a gorgeous teal blue, green, and white color palette – just get an eyeful of those gorgeous bridesmaid dresses and the bride’s bouquet! I’m a sucker for weddings held among trees, and especially those with bubbles, so this photo gallery is quite a treat. The mason jars, lanterns, metal buckets and vintage books all lent their own charms to the decor as well.

Anna + Kristian

Happy Friday, my crafty lovelies! It is nice and sunny here in Portland today, so I am in a rather snazzy mood. Hopefully you all have a change to get out and enjoy your weekend to the fullest.

One of the things I love most about putting together the Real Weddings section of DIY Bride is the wide range of submissions we receive. It really goes to show that no matter if you get married in your backyard, a barn, a church, or on a pier, you can DIY the details to fit your personal aesthetic. Anna and Kristian are the couple that married on a pier in New York, and the result is a modern and fresh ceremony with a reception at the home of a local light installation artist. The bride’s dress was vintage, she made her own veil, and all the florals and arrangements were created by the mother of the bride and maid of honor.
