Traci + John

Every so often I get hung up on a few details in a wedding that are just so great I just have to sit and stare at them, absorbing all the pretty. With Traci and John’s wedding, there are two – Traci’s dress, and the banners that hang on the back of the reception chairs. She purchased her dress and added the cap sleeves, and the banners were made with burlap from a thrift store with R’s stenciled on with black marker. They really tie the rest of the details together and set the tone for the day – that is what really phenomenal details can do.

Michele + Sean

The bride for this wedding, Michele, designed everything for her wedding – everything. Flower arrangements, centerpieces, decor, chair covers, table linens, wall decorations, napkin rings, and even her dress. The bursts of color created a day that spoke to the heart of what a wedding is – a day of love, joy, and merriment.

Nate + Molly

Fruit! Bubbles! Jam! This fruit-themed real wedding of Molly and Nate is filled with special touches. The majority of the decorations were handmade, and they created a dessert table of berries, apples, and pies instead of cakes.

Bridget + Jeff

Jeff and Bridget were married in an outdoor ceremony in Virginia, and the two took great pains to make sure their wedding was a casual and personalized affair. Together for almost a decade before getting married, they wanted to make sure they had time to savor the day with plenty of guests, love, food, and dancing. Bridget was also responsible for designing and crafting all the paper products for the wedding – menus, place cards, invitations, and programs. She also created the runners for the tables and arranged her own bouquet.

Gus + Anna

The bride from this wedding is a Nashville artist who was married in an art gallery surrounded by her own pieces, and it was a ceremony that had to jump over a few hurdles to happen. While Gus and Anna originally planned on marrying in Chicago, their venue fell through several weeks before the wedding date and they decided to move the entire event to Nashville. Shortly after, the destructive Nashville flood moved through the city just four weeks before their wedding. So when their wedding day rolled around there were a multitude of reasons to celebrate, and they even held a day-after session in their backyard that had been flooded weeks earlier.

Ashli + Dan

This wedding makes me swoon. Full-on, hand-over-heart, big-sigh swoon. Ashli decided to light the ceremony and reception with candlelight to evoke romance and a soft feel, and the result is amazing. Shopping locally for everything, she created the florals, the favors, and the gifts for her bridesmaids. She sewed lace sleeves onto her dress (found at a consignment shop along with her veil!) for a more vintage vibe.

Geneveive + Phil

Boutonnieres are frequently overlooked in the grand scope of a wedding. After all, it’s a little adornment that doesn’t often get much love on the wedding day. Luckily that’s been on trend to change, as couples use it as another way to use what could be seen as an insignificant bit of fancy more creatively. Take the wedding of Geneveive and Phil – they used pine cones to create her bouquet and his matching boutonnieres, and they look absolutely fabulous. Pine cones could also be found mingling with cranberries on the reception tables as well as sheet music since the bride and groom are musicians. They even sang a “first duet” during the reception  - “Two of Us,” by the Beatles, and had their first dance to “Across the Universe.”

Loretta + David

Something about burlap and lace just works. It’s a  little vintage, a little rustic, a little girly – but with an edge. Carefully selecting textures can go a long way when styling and planning a wedding. Loretta and David describe themselves as an easy-going couple, and wanted their wedding “to feel relaxed and comfortable, with a casual atmosphere.” Infusing burlap in the table runners and bunting, Loretta was also sure to balance it with lace around her bouquet, their cake, and doilies in the tablescape. She sourced mason jars, a birdcage and milk glass from antique stores and purchased their “Happily Ever After” sign from Etsy to complete the relaxed energy they were aiming for. David and Loretta were also lucky enough to have the talents of their friends and family in their day – their cake was made by a family friend, the flowers were styled by Loretta’s aunt, and the cake stand was created by her father from a large piece of eucalyptus. The majority of the remaining elements were crafted by the lovely couple.

Rachel + Jonathan

Rachel and Jonathan had a beautiful outdoor engagement session earlier this year in the California hills, complete with rustic backdrop, cowboy boots, scrabble tiles, and throwback Pepsi. Sometimes it’s the most simple of details that have the biggest impact.

Keith + Jenny

I feel like a bright and kicky wedding was in order for this blustery fall morning, so I present to you the nuptials of Jenny and Keith. Green was the color of the day and could be found in the DIY’d elements, from the candy buffet to signs. Friends and family helped with the flowers and the rest of the details like Jenny’s polka-dot dress and lawn games set up for guests added more playful loveliness to the day.
