Hey DIYers!

Thank you to everyone who entered the Win The DIY Bride Book contest. I received more entries than I anticipated so it’s taking a little longer than I had expected to get through them all. There are so many funny, poignant, and cool entries it’s become a really tough process. I’ll post the winner tomorrow, January 01.

And I just have to say that you guys rock!

Today’s sneak peak is among my all-time favorite DIY projects and it was one of the most fun to photograph. {Check out the Split Bamboo Centerpiece below.}
We shot this project, the Split Bamboo Centerpiece, at the ultra cool Metropolitan Building in Long Island City/Queens (if you’re looking for a reasonably priced venue in the NYC area, do check this place out!) and originally had another theme in mind for the display. When we got on location all of us - photographer, stylist, editorial team - fell in love with this really neat alcove in one of the Met’s rooms. The ginormous Buddha head, oriental rugs, and silk pillows were already in place so we took advance of the great setting. Hooray for spontanaeity!

I look forward to sharing a fabulous 2008 with you!

May your holidays be safe, drama-free, and full of good cheer,

Khris

No wedding-related book would be complete without a time line. For DIY couples, scheduling is tremendously important because most will vastly underestimate the time needed to plan and make their projects. A peek at the DIY Bride’s Proper Project Planning sheets is after the jump.

Are you ready for the first peek? Check out the Buds and Blossoms Bridal Bag below.

Instead of carrying a traditional nosegay down the aisle, wouldn’t it be fun to carry a handbag-shaped bouquet? Here’s a low-res picture of the project intro plus a shot of the beautiful Buds and Blossom Bridal Bag.

During the NYC trip to shoot the 1st half of the book way back in October 2006, the first thing our shuttle driver had to say was how crazy the city was due to the Will Smith shoot. DIYHusband and I didn’t see any sign of any film shoot - let alone Mr. Smith - on our way from the airport to our hotel and promptly forgot about it while we began to enjoy our first day in NYC. But the next day… Read More…

After about 18 months since I was offered the contract, my first DIY Bride book, The DIY Bride: 40 Fun Projects For Your Ultimate One-of-a-Kind Wedding, is about to be released. It’ll start shipping on/around January 01 from most of the online shops and should be available very soon at a bookseller near you.

In honor of the launch I’m throwing a  “12 Days of the Book Launch” celebration here, at the blog.  Each day, now through January 01, I’ll share a new piece of do-it-yourself wedding goodness with you. Get sneak peeks of the book contents, view some book-inspired projects, and win an autographed copy of the book. What better way to get your crafty 2008 off to a great start!

Cheers,

Khris
