NYC Folks: Your "Must Attend" Event For January

The Wedding Library, along in part with Martha Stewart, is hosting the “must attend” wedding event of early 2008 at the Carlyle on January 26. I can’t get to NYC this month (drat!) but if you can, you’ll be dazzled by the likes of DIY Bride favorites Darcy Miller from Martha Stewart Weddings, Preston Bailey, and Reem Acra. There will also be a champagne breakfast and vendor showcase with some of the best in the industry.  Tickets are available at http://www.theweddinglibrary.tix.com. w wedding library e vite NYC Folks: Your "Must Attend" Event For January [click image for full-size version]

Final Sneak Peek of the Book

Today is the last sneak peek of the book! I had a very hard time choosing what I wanted to share. I decided to show you one of my favorite features of the book – the price comparison. At the end of each project, I compare what it’d cost you to buy a ready-made/commercial version versus the cost to do-it-yourself. I think you’ll be very surprised at how much cash you can save. Check out some budget-friendly goodness after the jump.

Book Sneak Peek #3

Today’s sneak peak is among my all-time favorite DIY projects and it was one of the most fun to photograph. {Check out the Split Bamboo Centerpiece below.}
We shot this project, the Split Bamboo Centerpiece, at the ultra cool Metropolitan Building in Long Island City/Queens (if you’re looking for a reasonably priced venue in the NYC area, do check this place out!) and originally had another theme in mind for the display. When we got on location all of us – photographer, stylist, editorial team – fell in love with this really neat alcove in one of the Met’s rooms. The ginormous Buddha head, oriental rugs, and silk pillows were already in place so we took advance of the great setting. Hooray for spontanaeity!

Book Sneak Peek #2

No wedding-related book would be complete without a time line. For DIY couples, scheduling is tremendously important because most will vastly underestimate the time needed to plan and make their projects. A peek at the DIY Bride’s Proper Project Planning sheets is after the jump.

Book Sneak Peek #1

Are you ready for the first peek? Check out the Buds and Blossoms Bridal Bag below.

Instead of carrying a traditional nosegay down the aisle, wouldn’t it be fun to carry a handbag-shaped bouquet? Here’s a low-res picture of the project intro plus a shot of the beautiful Buds and Blossom Bridal Bag.

Vaguely book related: Will Smith? Yeah, we're buddies.

During the NYC trip to shoot the 1st half of the book way back in October 2006, the first thing our shuttle driver had to say was how crazy the city was due to the Will Smith shoot. DIYHusband and I didn’t see any sign of any film shoot – let alone Mr. Smith – on our way from the airport to our hotel and promptly forgot about it while we began to enjoy our first day in NYC. But the next day…
