Julie and Eric's Offbeat Engagement

Julie + Eric’s Colorful, Offbeat Coney Island Engagement Session

Notfernutthin’, but my job rocks!  I get to share some super special moments with some of the most creative, fun and downright awesome couples out there.  It’s like winning a hot dog eating contest without having to run to the bodega for some Tums to take care of the agita.

Julie and Eric's Offbeat Engagement

Today I get to officially represent my hometown, Brooklyn, NY!  This is the perfect close out to a stellar first week here at DIYbride.  My friends, Julie and Eric’s engagement session at Coney Island is yet another testament as to why if you’re thinking of ditching the engagement session in the planning process- Fuhgeddaboutit!  For all intensive purposes, if you got a Boss like De Nueva Photography behind the camera, Madone! Yooz guys just gotta check this out!

Julie and Eric's Offbeat Engagement

Okay, I’m sorry, sometimes it just slips out.  For the record, Brooklynites are quite capable of using proper grammar.  Brooklynisms are just more fun.  Now that all that stereotypical slang has had the chance be set free, I really want to thank Julie, Eric and De Nueva Photographers for choosing such a fun and colorful location.  I absolutely adore the mix of beach romance and sweet spontaneity with city toughness and a bumper car war.

Even though I don’t know Julie and Eric personally, I feel their photos have captured their fun, offbeat and creative personalities perfectly.  This session truly is an example of a way to capture the spirit of your love so that you can look back on it in fifty years.

Congratulations Julie and Eric!

Paroda + Matthew

All the decor for Paroda and Matthew’s wedding was created by the bride and her mother. I’m crushing on the adorable centerpieces that are a fun spin on a terrarium, and the initials burned into the wood round base. The rustic theme was carried through the bride’s wild bouquet, burlap favor bags, and outdoor ceremony. Their initials keep popping up in the decor elements, which is a sweet, personal touch to such a warm and down-to-earth wedding.

Lauren + Nathan

Lauren and Nathan’s destination DIY wedding is so clean, fresh, and simple. The couple is from California, but held their wedding celebration in New York’s Hudson Valley. The centerpieces were created by Lauren, who shipped the fruit for the decor from her own lemon tree at home. She also baked her own wedding cake (lemon, of course) with her mother and grandmother for the reception. The couple’s outdoor wedding and indoor hotel reception is so refreshing and crisp; a perfect showcase for a white palette with lemon accents.

Ashton + Amy

Amy and Ashton had a delightful summer wedding at a reinvented children’s summer camp. They hung tons of bunting (ooooo bunting, how I love thee), and used a canoe for holding drinks. The couple also created a photobooth and sweets table for the guests, and decorated the gorgeous ceremony space with antique tablecloths. A perfect way to embrace the sweet, rustic vibe of the day.

And I’m still swooning over the bunting.

Anna + Kristian

Happy Friday, my crafty lovelies! It is nice and sunny here in Portland today, so I am in a rather snazzy mood. Hopefully you all have a change to get out and enjoy your weekend to the fullest.

One of the things I love most about putting together the Real Weddings section of DIY Bride is the wide range of submissions we receive. It really goes to show that no matter if you get married in your backyard, a barn, a church, or on a pier, you can DIY the details to fit your personal aesthetic. Anna and Kristian are the couple that married on a pier in New York, and the result is a modern and fresh ceremony with a reception at the home of a local light installation artist. The bride’s dress was vintage, she made her own veil, and all the florals and arrangements were created by the mother of the bride and maid of honor.

Erin + Eric

With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, we’ve got some major DIY wedding love coming your way today and tomorrow. To kick off the week we have the wedding of Eric and Erin, and to say love was in the air is an understatement. Pink flowers, pink lighting, and even pink flower girl dresses created an atmosphere of sweetness, and the DIY projects for the ceremony and reception lend a personal touch to the day.
