Melissa + Jeff

There are times that we get submissions and the words of the bride are so eloquent that I just cannot do them justice with my own recap. So for the very first Wedding Wednesday of September, Melissa is providing the recap about her wedding. Please pull up a seat, and enjoy.

For Jeff and I, we really wanted to provide an experience for people that felt intimate and special. We felt that doing all of the planning ourselves would help us to keep the wedding in line with what we were aiming for. When we found the Flying Caballos Ranch, we knew it was exactly what we had been hoping for. We were excited that it was a place that we could have the freedom to do what we wanted . . . since it’s not officially a wedding venue. We wanted everyone there to feel that they were there because they are important pieces of our lives, so we had photo frames that had pictures of most of the guests. We also personalized the experience by having our friends perform key parts – the service, the music, the hair/makeup, the invitations, the photography, etc. We wanted to share with people what we love so much about wine country and California (most people were traveling there from out of state, which inspired us to have a guest book made of vintage postcards that people could write on). We were motivated by the landscape and foodscape of the area, so we gave out handprinted California wildflower seed packets and a bbq rub recipe from a local restaurant which we replicated and packaged in handprinted bags. Alcohol was from local brewers and wineries, and the food was locally grown. We tried to make every detail one that we’d touched or had some creative part in, so that everywhere you looked you knew that we had put our hearts into it.

Paroda + Matthew

All the decor for Paroda and Matthew’s wedding was created by the bride and her mother. I’m crushing on the adorable centerpieces that are a fun spin on a terrarium, and the initials burned into the wood round base. The rustic theme was carried through the bride’s wild bouquet, burlap favor bags, and outdoor ceremony. Their initials keep popping up in the decor elements, which is a sweet, personal touch to such a warm and down-to-earth wedding.

Alana + Jack

We’re keeping it laid-back and relaxed at the tail end of this holiday weekend. Alana and Jack had a dreamy engagement shoot in and around their home, and it’s the perfect antidote for the end of summer.

Luke + Laura

The wedding of Luke + Laura is rustic central. I’m in a fit of swooning over the soft palette, the lighting through the slats in the barn during the ceremony, and the low-key lantern release during the reception. The entire wedding was designed and pulled together by the couple, their family, and friends – they even brought in church pews for the ceremony in the barn!

Jaclyn + Rick

As a diehard bookworm, the library-themed wedding of Jaclyn and Rick is vintage eye candy finest for me. All the rustic browns, oranges, and greens with great literary touches throughout the day created an atmosphere that perfectly represented the personalities of the couple. Personalized library cards greeted each guest at their place setting and Jaclyn paid homage to her Mexican heritage while also incorporating the couple’s cat into their wedding jewelry (a cameo for the bride and cufflinks for the groom).

Alisha + Scott

This wedding has it all. Love, succulents, pink roses, chandeliers in the trees, an awesome pedicure, and a sweet backyard location, just to start. Mason jar accents abounded, and a great ceremony was followed by an even better reception. Occasionally when I come across weddings featured in the vast blogosphere, I’m concerned they may be too ambitious – is it really possible to recreate the stunning details that are shown in all these beautiful photographs? With Alisha and Scott’s wedding, you get the best of both worlds with a wedding that photographs so beautifully it looks like a completely different world, and it’s filled with DIY elements and projects anyone can do.
