Things You Can Skip (And No One Will Care)
My friend and penultimate wedding diva, Terrica from Once Upon Your Wedding, had a fabulous post the other day about stupid wedding things you can skip that no one will notice.
It’s easy to get caught up in the spending frenzy that weddings tend to become and we tend to buy things we don’t really want or even need just because we’re expected to. Add up all the little extras and I’ll wager you’ll be pretty shocked at how much money you’re losing at crap your guests won’t care about and that you’ll never, ever use (see) again.
In addition to Terrica’s list, I’d like to add:
- Toasting flutes for the bride & groom
- Cake server & knife
- OOT baskets (a nice gesture but completely unnecessary)
- Decorated/special pens for the guest book

Expensive and usually uncomfortable shoes for the bride! Let’s face it – when will you ever wear white heels again anyway???
We’re skipping a bunch of stuff like favors, OOT bags, & Save the Date cards but the biggest one is probably an album from our photographer. We’re just getting our our digital negatives and I’m making coffee table books through one of the publishing sites.
We are skipping a special car…we live only a couple miles from oure location…and the ceremony and reception are on the same grounds. So we are just gonna use my fiances truck.
And I am skipping the darn awful looking pew bows, aisle runner, thousands of flowers scattered all over the church… I am skipping the alcohol (yes, the alcohol!) and I am making my own darn cake! =) I too, am skipping the limo/special car, I’m skipping the expensive wedding reception, I’m skipping the chair covers and the sashes, I am using plastic plates/utensils, I am using Oriental Trading… we are skipping a huge honeymoon, and will go on a vacation later on when we have a family and more money..
That’s just the start…
1. Skip the personalized cocktail napkins.
2. As far as transportation goes, we contacted the president of a local car club, and he is driving us for FREE in his awesome looking classic car!
What are OOT bags??
We’re skipping the garter/bouqet tosses.
AL: OOT bags are Out Of Town bags. They’re bags or baskets of goodies for your out-of-town guests, usually dropped off to their hotel rooms.

the DJ *thank you iPod and iTunes*
the catering *thank you uncles and our love for baseball grill outs*
alcohol *he doesn’t drink*
possibly the special car

We’re skipping favors, OOT bags, personalized napkins, aisle runner, chair covers, cake cutting set, a DJ (iPod wedding!), an open bar, and probably a special car. We’re also going on an inexpensive honeymoon. The reception is at my parents’ house, so we’re skipping the venue rental fee as well.

We made 150 save the dates for less than 30 cents per.
We bought our invitations at Michaels with coupons for 1/2 off… so 120 invitations for only $89 (Including tax)
We bought stamps a few years ago when they were cheaper…
We handed out some of our save the dates at Christmas to close family and friends.
We are skipping…
The fancy car. The expensive honeymoon. The huge centerpieces. The favors. The escort cards. (instead we’re making a seating board on card stock on a big board covered with fabric) The huge cake. (We’re doing a smaller cake and sheet cakes) & we cut down on the bar – so it will begin beer and wine after dinner, rather than all night.
