Win Copies of The DIY Bride Books
Hey DIYers,
It feels like giveaway time! I’m giving away a very special prize: a copy of both of my books. That’s right, you can win 40 Fun Projects For Your Ultimate One-of-a-Kind Wedding and The Crafty Countdown in one neat little package this time.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Leave a comment to this post (posting comments to other posts is perfectly fine but won’t gain you the opportunity to win the prize).
- In your comment, tell me what kind of projects you’re planning on or hope to do.
- Enter by July 30th. On August 01, I’ll pick 2 winners at random.
The fine print:
- I ask that only brides-to-be (and grooms, too) enter the contest, please. Since they’re the ones in the most need of the info & inspiration in the book, I strongly feel they’re the ones who should have the opportunity to win a copy.
- Open to residents of the US, Canada, Australia/NZ, and the UK at this time.
- One entry per person.

I’m planning on doing all of my flowers, want to do some cute sashes for the bridesmaids, and was hoping to make some sort of flowers out of fabric to wear in our hair. The wedding is a year away (almost exactly) so I’m still hunting for other DIY ideas. I love your website!
I am going to try to do as much DIY as possible since we have a very small budget! I am not that crafty so this would help a lot!! I am going to make Pomanders, card box, letters for cake table, unity candle, centerpieces, guestbook, ring pillow, flower girl basket, kids table activities, invitations, favors… I know I’m missing something but that is what I will go with! Love all the help this blog provides, Thank you!
Oh my, I love this giveaway! As a bride-to-be I have big dreams for my wedding, but my goal is to make sure it is very personal, and reflects the two of us well. Unfortunately I almost don’t know where to start with that, and I think your books would be perfect for us. I plan on doing much of it myself (with some help of course!) but as far as projects go, the biggest grouping I can think of it the invitations, thank you cards, programs, and favors. Love your blog!!
I’m hoping to make surprise balls for the out of town guests, table runners and the centerpieces. My fiance’s not crafty, but he’s having fun learning.
I will be doing everything from making our own invitations, making jam for favors, and writing our ceremony to save money. I would love a copy of these books!
I hope to do my centerpieces, programs, escort cards, and favors.
We’re doing a lot of things ourselves – flowers, invitations, favors, centerpieces, guest book, all of the decor, some of the food, and on and on. It’s a total labor of love, but it’s all worth it.
we're planning a small ceremony where we live and large, casual parties in our hometowns. For the local event, I'd like to make Save-the-Dates, aisle runner, fabric/felt corsages, napkins, and welcome bags. For the other events, bunting and maybe some table runners are on my list.

Ooooohh awesome! I'm planning to DIY the invitations, centerpieces, potentially the groomsmen's boutonnieres and my veil
Hooray for books! I am planning a lakeside cottage wedding for next summer and am currently in the “inspiration overload” phase, but here are the projects I hope to DIY:
- Silkscreened invitations and save-the-dates – I'm thinking green and brown, pine and wood!
- Balsam Log Candle Holders
- Cupcake Tower! (With old plates and bowls to build the platform)
- My mom is growing the flowers and gathering the mason jars – we'll be doing the centrepieces and bouquets on our own.
- Beer Canoe! (Canoe + Beer + Ice = Most important DIY detail of all!)
That's all I am ready to commit to for now – I am sure some other projects will sneak out of the inspiration pile and onto the to-do list before next summer though!
Also, great blog! Keep up the good work. Imagine – a blog with actual NEW content – shocker! Thanks for adding to the inspiration folder.
My fiance is a television commercial producer, so we are planning on having some DIY video going on. Ok, lots of videos… probably on vintage-looking tvs. Then, because I worked at Anthropologie for a number of years, lots of color in the hanging fabrics for a textural look. Finally, a s'mores bar, where I plan to actually make the marshmallows myself (so I can ensure they are kosher)!
Ooh, I’m having a January wedding and love the idea of a smores bar! How do I make kosher marshmallows?
I hope to do fun favors for the guests!
Practically everything we are doing is DIY!: the centrepieces, bunting, shortbread button favors, the cake and cupcakes, my clutch purse and more.
I am planning on doing DIY centrepieces, flowers and invites!
I'm doing flower arrangements, invitations, programs, and possibly my dress, and a friend will make my cake.
I plan on doing a lot of DIY projects for our wedding. First and foremost will be the centerpieces for our guest tables–round carnation balls. I'm also planning on hand screen printing my invitations and save-the-dates with a gocco. I want to create some sort of backdrop for our ceremony space as well. Your books would be a huge source of inspiration!
I'm wanting to do centerpieces focusing on some DIY flower or other concept. Also, favors are positively DIY. Would like to do something extra unique that would involve the guests themselves. Maybe decorating votive candle holders, or something like that.
I'm hoping to do my own flowers and perhaps some other decorations for the reception and ceremony as well. Depending how ambitious I'm feeling, I might also design and print my own invitations, and knit a shawl or veil for myself.
I'm a bride to be getting married in April 2011. We're pretty much DIY-ing the whole thing. Projects I'm excited about are:
Lights – I'm going to buy old glass containers from thrift stores and frost them (kit from craft store) to hold little lights (Candles? LEDs?) and
Buffet Dinner – I'm going to try to make the napkins and I'm buying mismatched plates and silverware.
Invitations – We're doing a small poster, designed to look like a concert flyer, and will roll it up and send out in mail tubes with funky magnets. (technically, we're getting our graphic artist to do the flyer, my renditions were more spastic thank artistic).
I'm making my favors and guest bags for people coming in from out of town. I'd also like to make a backdrop for “photobooth” type shots and a banner.
I plan paper origami flowers, star punched luminarias and hand made invitations and programs!
I planning to diy my guestbook, my unity candles, and my favors with the help of a hot glue gun and some ribbon
I am a craft junkie and am really looking forward to making my wedding reflect that and the simplicity that my future husband and I embody. I will more than likely do my own flowers (bouquet and centerpieces) and have a few projects in mind to spruce up the arboretum space that we picked out, like working with a semi-blank/clean canvas I can’t wait to get started! I’m fortunate enough to have plenty of hands on deck to help me with the major projects, but things like the jewlery I plan on making for my girls (shhh! it’s a secret!) and little bits here and there will hopefully make a tasteful and splendid impression on a small budget. With already under a year to go there’s so much to do, and really understanding what projects to tackle in what order would be such a great help!
I'm planning on doing our invitations, decorations and centerpieces for our wedding. Still looking for a number of ideas and how to handle all the madness.
we are making our own invites, centerpieces, hair piece, ring bowl and cake just to name a few things. Having a book to help with the how-to would be wonderful
I am making my favor boxes, centerpieces, bouquets, and anything else i can!
I'm working hard with my Mother-In-Law to work out to do DIY-wise. At the moment, we're planning on doing:
– we're having a small wedding and reception and then a larger party the Saturday after to keep costs down
*stationery – I'm lucky enough to have a Graphic Designer as a friend and she is helping me design the suite and I'll print/embellish/stamp/press and send them out,
*the flowers – bouquets and centrepieces,
*patterened fabric table runners which I'll convert to a wedding quilt afterwards (theoretically! I need to learn how to sew first…),
*drinks – we want to embellish used wine bottles for water bottles and make spirits-based punch (cos we're not big wine drinkers)
*catering for our “after-party”, including cupcakes!
Thanks for giving a copy of your books away. Some of the projects I am thinking about doing is all the ceremony decor, all my flowers and half doing DIY catering.
I am recently engaged and so overwhelmed! Your website has a lot of great tips and I am looking for DIY ideas for centerpieces and favors.
I'm really looking forward to doing my own cake and center pieces!
I just finished my engagement party invitations and am planning to create my Save the Dates, invitations, decorations (banners, etc.), favors, escort cards, table numbers, bouquets/boutonnieres…My mom and I are seriously considering doing our own flower arrangements for the centerpieces but I'm scared to make that big of a decision yet. Yay for DIY weddings! =)
I am planning to make things that will give maximum impact, but without taking so much effort that I go crazy in the process.
I will make:
Bouquets and buttonholes; Bridal party gifts; Table centrepieces; My jewellery, fiance’s cufflinks; invitations and programmes.
We’re planning on DIY-ing our centerpieces, paper goods, my accessories, our favors, table runners and napkins, the unity candle, calligraphy, and more.
Great giveaway idea! For my wedding I plan on DIY programs, invites, cake topper, favors!
I hope to do my favors, my music playlist, and maybe my flowers by myself. I'll also likely do table centerpieces that are not flowers on my own (ie, with mom) too
Some folks say I'm crazy, but I'm hoping to do all of the stationery myself. I have fallen in love with my new adopted hometown and really want to have the theme of the wedding evoke the feeling of the urban South and our unique wedding venue. It'll give me a chance to hone my design skills and show off Durham to our out-of-town guests!
I love DIY'ing! So far I've made paper flower centerpieces and table decor. For the bridesmaids I've done bracelets and homemade sugar scrub. At this moment I'm working on programs and table numbers!
Hi, whew, well the question is, what am I not planning to do by DIY?…Oh yeah, the catering ; ) The paper I'll do myself, the flowers, the decor I'm already collecting piece by piece. I can't wait to see how it all turns out and I'm constantly looking for new inspiriation. Thank you DIY Bride, you are a life true saver!
I am getting married in November of this year and i have had a blast with my DIY projects… and i still have more to come.
- custom painted aisle runner (almost done)
- 4 tier wedding card box (done)
- custom monogrammed candy bar wrappers for the candy buffet(done)
- Water bottle labels (done)
- Crystallized cake topper (done)
- Invitations (almost done)
- still to come- bathroom baskets, out of town bags, bridesmaid gift bags, and centerpieces
I love the blog! I am getting married next september and I am planning to put my own bouquets and centerpieces together myself. I am also going to be designing and printing my own invitations!
Thanks for all the ideas!
Megan
I am planning on doing all my decor and flowers. I look farward to doing all on this for my wedding.
I already did my save-the-date cards by hand but I’ll also be working on my party favors, wedding programs, and card box. I might take a stab at some floral decorations for my cake table and ceremony site but we’ll see if I get inspired.
I’m a graphic designer, so I DIY’ed my save-the-dates, invites, and website. I’m currently designing the table signs and escort cards, and all those little pieces of signage that you need, like menus and reserved signs for the ceremony seating. I’m also doing some sewing projects… so far, I’ve finished the flower girl basket and one table runner. I have 17 table runners to go, plus flags for outdoor decoration. I *think* that’s everything!
I am getting married next summer so I have a year to plan and do all my DIY projects. I am going to be doing my centerpieces and have already been going to thrift stores to collect the vases. I am also hoping to create all the placecards, menus, and favors. I really want to do my invitations as well, but am a little afraid with this one! Would love some great ideas for all of this.
In reading all of these incredibly inspiring blogs, I'm trying not to get completely swept away in DIY fever to avoid creating a stressful situation. I'd love to tackle a few DIY projects, and I am hoping these books can help me focus my energy to make them really memorable and fun! Thanks for the chance to win
)
I am planning a May 2011 waterfront wedding at my family home in SC. I am planning on incorporating a ton of DIY projects to add some flair to the “rustic elegance” feel we are going for. A few of the DIY ideas I would like to tackle so far are:
-Save-the-date postcards
-Personalized out-of-town bags filled w/ lowcountry goodies
-Handmade wedding guides to fill guests in on the weekend’s events and things to do in the area
-Wedding programs
-Moss pomanders to decorate the ceremony aisle
-Table centerpieces
-Lit grapevine balls to hang throughout the trees
-Reclaimed wood signs for marking parking, cocktail hour, and reception areas
-Guestbook
…and the list keeps growing.
Clearly I could use a little bit of help streamlining some of my ideas, and from what I have heard about your books, it sounds like the perfect inspiration!!
I'm first and foremost looking for inspiration for my DIY projects and I know your books would provide that and then some
Right now, I'm planning to do programs, menus, escort cards & cardholders, favors, and some decorations. Thank you for the opportunity!
I will be arranging the bouquets myself. We also plan to do our own invites and save the date cards.
Love all the great ideas on your website. We are still in planning stages for our wedding next Memorial Day but the goal is to do almost everything ourselves – invitations, flower arrangements, catering, table decorations – and I am going to rely on everyone’s advice alot. Keep the good ideas coming!
I'm planning to do all the centerpieces and table decorations at the reception, the guestbook, programs (maybe – if I have time for all of these) and the table numbers/seating chart. I definitely need some DIY inspiration, my wedding is this October!
I would love to win this contest. I am doing everything myself. Paper flowers for the bouqets, bouts, corsages and centerpieces. Doing my own favors, invitations, escort cards, hair, decorations, and anyhting else that comes up at the last minute. It would be great to have this inspiration.
I'm in the midst of making tons of organza flowers for table decorations as well as sewing my own gown, but I'm most excited to be making my own fascinator! I bought the most gorgeous goose feathers last week and I'm going to borrow a vintage brooch from a friend as the focal point!
thanks for opening this up to UK residents! I hate it when I get all excited about blog giveaways only to see they're US-only…
I did a beautiful boxed invitation to ask my close girlfriends to be my bridesmaids. It had a peacock/jewel theme.
I don't know if my comment loaded. Doesn't look like it.
So I'll post again.
I borrowed your first book from the library and am really excited about the tiara in it and the earrings. It is just what i was looking for!
Our theme is “Act Your Shoe Size (not your age)” and I'll be DIY-ing alot to make that happen.
All the girls' jewelry, including mine. Their bouquets out of paper flowers. My bouquet out of real roses or paper roses made out of my favorite novels.
The groom and groomsmen's bout's and their cufflinks.
Our centerpieces will be board games with glass coke bottles with origami and paper pieced flowers with crystals on wire. Sounds weird but it will look pretty, I promise!
Also any decor for our church. But i have to find out what they allow and what they don't before I work on that.
Any signage for our sundae bar and the games we'll have going.
All the paper goods, invites, stds, reply cards, etc I'll be designing myself.
I'm sure there is more but I can't remember it all now!
Here is our website with all our ideas!

Hi, thanks so much for hosting this giveaway! The blog is great and has provided us with tons of inspiration.
We're getting married in April 2011, and we're doing the invitations, centerpieces, flowers, the veil, and thank you cards.
I'm planning on doing our own centerpieces and favors.
I’m wanting to DIY our favors, programs, a video, my garter, and gifts for our attendants! I would do our flowers too, but I’ve never been to skilled with that! lol These books are fantastic and would be a great tool! I only have 9 months to go!
I'm hoping to grow & DIY flowers/bouquets and maybe the cake if I turn out to be truly insane.
We will most likely be doing our invites/response cards, table numbers, seating cards, and perhaps centerpieces ourselves. We’d love to be able to reference these great books for tips and ideas!
I'm planning on DIY photobooth, flowers, centerpieces, ceremony arch, ceiling hangings, bar, BM and bride's jewelry, invitations… better get going!
I love these books…I plan to DIY our invitations, OOT bags, jewelry, water bottle labels, napkins, and maybe centerpieces.
Oh fun! I am getting married in March and hoping to do as much DIYing as I can. I really want to make paper flowers for the center pieces, table runners, a cake stand, favors, and pretty much anything else I can fit in my schedule. These books would be fantastic!
I am so very excited to make a wedding that shows the personality of Mike and I. I am going to try and do most things myself. I am going to specifically try the cupcake holders. SUPER CUTE. I think that we are going to serve our guests their dessert!!!
I am planning to do several things!
-Decorate and put together welcome bags for out-of-town guests
-Invitations
-Programs
-Centerpieces
-A table runner for our buffet table
-Boutonieres and bouquets if I get brave!
-Floral pew decorations
-Signs to direct guests to our ceremony/reception locations
-Escort cards
That’s all for now
I’m hoping to finish my DIY invites, then I need to work on the paper products for the day of – programs, menus, seating chart!
I love “DIY Bride Crafty Countdown!” There are some beautiful (and affordable!) projects! I’m hoping for a tall and sculptural centerpiece! Pretty much everything will be DIY, as our entire budget is going to feeding everyone! (Already planning on making the beautiful wood veneer invitations from the book, they’re so unique!)
I am still in the very early stages of planning…and haven't yet explored all the different DIY projects that I could do. But, so far, I plan on DIYing my save the dates, the seating cards, and maybe invitations. Also, I want to do our favors (likely something yummy and edible, and something else), and a welcome bag for our out of town guests (there will be a lot, my entire family!!) I've toyed with the idea of DIYing my reception flowers, but that kind of scares me.
I'm doing all the paper stuff: the invitations (boarding pass), wedding announcements, programs, etc. I design my own jewelry, so I'm going to do my wedding jewelry and pieces for each of my bridesmaids. If I can figure out how to print on hankies, ones for the mothers. I'm sure there will be more DIY to come!
Me and my family and friends are making everything–invitations, decorations, centerpieces, the food, the cake. It will be a really community event (we hope).
I am planning to DIY part of our invitations, our menus and placecards, a few key reception items, and our favors. Since my fiance and I both love to cook, our favors will involve some sort of “dry” ingredients and a recipe card testing by us, and a “love lessons learned in the kitchen”-type card attached.
We're planning on DIYing the invites at least and possibly the flowers.
This is going to be a beach wedding so I am making my own centerpieces, decorations, favors and gifts for the bridesmaids and also my veil. So knowing how super stressful weddings can be getting close to the big day I'm trying to have all of the decorations non-floral so I can get them done way ahead of time. The favors are quickly becoming the biggest challenge. And my veil I really want to have a shell in my hair. I'm also thinking of doing the bouquet but who knows what I will get to, and what my crafty assistant will do. She is not a bridesmaid and has lovingly volenteered to help me with all my diy craziness. I visit the website everyday to see what new things you have posted….Thanks!
I'm definitely planning to do programs for my own wedding, but I'm helping out with centerpieces for an upcoming wedding and need ideas!
Hi! Thanks for your blog & the chance to win a wonderful keepsake filled with ideas and inspiration!
So I'm a DIY Bride, getting married next June and I'm keeping our decor casual and chic. I'm making fabric boards for the escort cards that I'm hand writing, I'm creating my own centerpieces with floral arrangements and french flower buckets, I'm sewing tablecloths because i hate polyester, eww….heh, I'm also creating menus for the tables, signs for the crudite selections, and my fiance and I are attempting to paint canvasses that match our decor and our story in place of the existing artwork hanging in the reception space (we are both artists & having our wedding at a local hall that has a very old artsy vibe cuz its cheap!). I'm also making advice cards for the bride in groom which I'm super excited about! I found a cardboard cutout at michaels of a mini house so we are using that as a template. Last but not least Im making homeade cinnamon sugar almonds and granola as our favors nestled in mason jars- my favorite!!
I'm hoping to make.. save the date cards, invitations, escort cards, favors, and some decorations.. I'm a poor medical student so new DIY ideas would be very helpful!
I'm hoping to make our invitations (we wont be getting married until I finish the rest of grad school so hopefully that'll give me enough time to get them all set), centrepieces, and favours for sure along with our accessories.
Of course, I'll probably end up adding more projects as we go since the list of stuff I'd like to do is already getting longer and longer
As a DIY Bride to Be, I will definately be taking on quite a few projects… with the help of our family of course. We are writing our own ceremony, having my FIL be our officiant, doing all the bouquets and arrangements ourselves, collecting as many clear jars as possible for glassware/centerpieces, making handmade soap for favors, homemade cheesecake as our wedding cake, Save the Dates were hand stamped by yours truly, inivitations will be designed by my brother, photography will be done by his uncle.
The purpose behind all these DIY projects is to let our authenticity shine through. We don't believe in feeding the wedding industry and we want our personalities to shine through. I hope to win these books so I can add more projects to my list and then pass it on to the next engaged couple!
I am planning on DIY the inviations/paper for sure. My fiance is a graphic designer so he can design something creative and cheap! I also have seen neat ideas for reception decorations that I want to try…but I NEED MORE IDEAS!!!
How exciting!
hello! love your website. i am planning my wedding on a tight budget and plan to make/do everything myself (invitations, programs, favors, bridesmaids gifts, etc).
I hope to be able to make my own invitations and embroider the front of them … and I would love to make my flowers (crochet, fabric, etc). I want to DIY as much as possible!
I hope to keep our wedding as green as possible, buying locally, and even picking the berries from local farms that we will use to make jam for favors. I'm also excited to dig into some creative lighting ideas, using jars and paper lanterns. We are tempted to try to also cook most of the food ourselves.
We are doing our STD's & invitations, the cake topper, the ring pillow, a fauxto-booth, the napkins, the ties for the groom & groomsmen, the table identifier cards & stands, the place cards, centerpieces, the flowers, and we're even making our own candles. We've been getting things done a little faster than expected so we are always looking for other ideas! Thanks!!
I am planning on making my flowers (paper or fabric), invitations (gocco printing hopefully!), decorations, and probably most of the food with help from friends.
I am doing a couple of DIY projects for my wedding, including making the invitations and the centerpieces. I would love to do some more projects to make my wedding special, I just need some inspiration
I'm going to be sewing paper garlands, making center pieces, and decorating a kids table. I'm most excited about the last one. We're also going to do a computer guest sign in with digital pictures of the guests and a Wacom tablet so they can write their greetings. An artsy friend of mine is going to 'sit the guest book' by taking the pictures and arranging them with the greetings to print into a book along with photos from the rest of the wedding. (We're computer engineers…the digital part is necessary!)
I am experimenting with watercolored coffee filter roses and crepe paper flowers for the bouquets, and since my fiance is a graphic designer and I'm an artist, we're teaming up to design original stationary to carry throughout the wedding from save-the-dates to programs. I'm also looking into crafting the favor packaging, once we decide on a unique favor!
I love crafts and scrapbooking so to be able to incorporate anything DIY into my wedding would be great! I love the idea of DIY table numbers using chalk board paint. One of my favorite things DIY that I have done are our save the dates! I took the pictures and put them in a photostrip template and created a postcard save the date and had them printed on thick cardstock. They're adorable and knowing that I made designed them myself is even better! I'd love to have one of these books to come up with more ideas for DIY items at my wedding!
Oh wow, I am *so excited* about this! I already made my save the date cards and am working on the invitations, reception cards, and invitation folders right now. Over the next year, I will also make the response cards, programs, centerpieces for our dinner and reception, place cards, decorative buckets to hold the programs, favor boxes, thank you cards, guest book, and garter. I’m considering making the bouquets, but not entirely sure yet. Also, a friend is making our wedding cake.
My fiance and I are currently trying to come up with a DIT (do-it-together) favor to make for our guests, but we haven’t decided on what it will be yet.
You can see more here http://jerseybride.wordpress.com/
I’m also posting this contest my blog. Good luck everyone!
I have a long list of DIY projects to do for my wedding… So far I’ve made our monogram, STD cards, & BM cards, but my biggest DIY project is my wedding dress!
Would LOVE some more DIY help. I plan to do some add-ons to centerpieces: painted wooden initials, something with airplanes (my fiance is a pilot), flowers like yarn mums, place cards and anything else I can think of before May 17th!
I am planning on a lot of DIY for my wedding in a year. We are having a sort of library/books theme so I'll be making the Save the Dates, maybe invitations. I'll definitely be making some kind of centerpieces with books in them, and dewey decimal themed escort cards. I'll probably also be making my veil and some other fabric projects as well.
Love this book!!! DIY projects include an aisle runner, ring bearer pillow, flower girl kissing ball, invites…the list goes on! This book would be really handy!
I want to make my own invites!
I’m pretty much in love with this site! SO hope I get picked for these books!
We love the DIY invitations posted on this site (guest post by Kristen for $100 invites) and are planning on probably going that route.
Hoping to make paper flowers and centerpieces!
I’m on a tight budget, but decided to have a small wedding so I can really give everything a personal touch. I may be taking on too much, but hope to create our dessert bar, favors for the guests, favors for the wedding party, photo booth props, and the tablescapes. AGH!!! The thought of it scares me already, but I know the end product will be worth it.
As an under $5k budget, we plan to do a lot ourselves. I'm most excited about our favors (individual cupcakes) and flowers (hoping to grow our own garden with lots of different flowers that we can pick the day before).
I am planning on building my own antique brooch bouquet to hold on my day! My family has been collecting brooches for me for the past two years (we always knew he was the one!)-so i'm so excited to see everything come together from my family.
We're planning to DYI all paper products, wedding favors, some flowers and certerpieces. I would love these books!
I'm going to be doing (with the help of a lot of wonderful friends, of course!) the flowers, reception music, decorations, and dessert table. A friend of ours is going to be catering for us as a wedding present, so all we'll have to pay for is the food. I may also end up having a friend sew the bridesmaids' dresses as well.
We are planning to make a DIY photobooth and make a wooden cupcake stand and a cake stand made from glass bricks.
twils2001@yahoo.com
I'm hoping to DIY my invites, flowers and cake. Maybe I'm being a little ambitious….
I am planning on doing the following for my weddig: save-the-dates, invitations, centerpieces, bouquets, hair accessories, jewelry and all decorations for ceremony and recepton.
we have a lot of time to plan, but we're hoping to do as much as we can on our own. we have a small budget, but we're hoping to cut costs with DIY projects, and we're excited to find more ideas from your site. it gives us hope that we can do what we want and have the wedding we want without spending a ton!
I've already bought some pocketfolds to to do my invites. Once we get our e-pics done, I'll get to work on our STD's. And I'm trying to figure out how to do centerpiece/table numbers.
I would really like to win your newest book because 1. I hear it is really helpful and 2. I already purchased your first one!
I'm looking to make all kinds of things if time permits. I have a baby so things are a bit tough timewise…and energywise…but I'd like to do invitations that are practical (size of normal envelops), centerpieces that are also table numbers, a candy favor bar, etc.
*crosses fingers* Thank you for this opportunity!
I letterpressed my own invitations and save the dates and I am planning on making a birdcage veil with flower fascinator, wine stopper favors, wine charms, cork place card holders, programs, and my menus. I would one of your books for help!
The list goes on and on. I'm doing my own centerpeices, invites, jewelery boxes for bridesmaids, flowers, makeup, out of town bags, etc…..
Any suggestions you have would be amazing….
I'm really excited about making the wedding personal, but in a chic way. One big DIY project is making out of town bags, since nearly everyone will be traveling to the wedding. I'm ambitious about making them lots of fun, which would include:
-Printing or adhering or stamping a design on a reusable canvas bag
-Making origami boxes for homemade truffles
-Individual welcome notes, which I'd like to emboss the covers with our wedding theme
-Water bottles or other drinks with a personalized label
For the rehearsal dinner, where I get free reign, projects include:
-Bunting or other decorations
-Labels for drinks and bbq options
-Rules for lawn games
-Potted plants as centerpieces
-Sewing tablecloths
-S'mores bar (I see I have the same idea as some other posts)
For the wedding, I'm hoping to make burlap table runners or squares for the center of our tables, hang mason jars with candles from the trees, and growing succulents to plant in either teacups or birch. I think I may end up making my veil as well.
I'm doing as much DIY as possible! Invitations, Save the Dates, Flowers, Favors, Decorations, Jewelry… and more!
Tons of DIY things at our wedding! Flowers, all decorations, cake, all paper goods (invitations, save the dates, etc.). These books would be awesome for us!
YAY! So fun! I could totally use these book for inspiration for my wedding in October then pass them along to my friends who will be getting married next year!
I love giveaways, especially when it means a cheaper wedding! (Hey, who am I trying to impress with my money spending skills? No one. Who am I trying to impress with my craftiness? EVERYBODY.)
The projects I have planned so far are:
Making my own headpiece (a birdcage veil/feathered headband)
Designing my own mad-libs type wedding invitations and assembling them using our wedding colors, exact-o knives and ribbon (and many, many pals!)
Making headpieces for my bridal party
Constructing the centerpieces/floral arrangements
Creating a memorable, unique hand-fasting ceremony using strips of ribbon and having our guests sign wishes for us onto them with sharpies in our wedding colors (each guest will tie a knot around our hands on one large ribbon and we will create a wreath with the guest's ribbons to hang in our home!)
Making a Clark Kent/Lois Lane groom's cake (when we first got together, my darling told me, “I love you more than Superman loved Lois Lane. You can't even imagine how much that is.” How geeky and adorable is that?)
AND THEN SOME!
I will be collecting clam shells from the beach next to where we will be getting married to use as escort cards (after bleaching them of course). My bridesmaids and I will be creating centerpieces of hydrangeas and shells. I also plan on making our own menu cards, table numbers and thank you cards.
I'm doing a lot of D-I-Y gifts for my bridesmaids and hope to do D-I-Y table numbers, place cards, seating chart etc. but I need some tips!
I am newly engaged, and am beginning to plan a June 2011 wedding. Since we are on a tight budget, we are having an outdoor wedding. Although I am planning on doing everything myself, my biggest challenge will be to construct DIY decor for the outdoor wedding. I'm hoping that your blog and books will give me the inspiration and advice I need to move forward with my wedding!
I would like to make all the decorations for reception and invites and flower arrangements.
Beautiful invitations for a first project.
Just started planning and I have a number of projects planned. DIY invitations, programs, save the dates, corsages, jewelry, escort cards, guest book, out of town bags, and favors just to name a few. I have a ton of ideas and am still looking for inspiration. Lots to do…good thing I still have 14 months!
I'm hoping to get my invites done along with some unique decorations that are easy to put together but give the whole wedding a special detailed vibe. I love details!
I want to make fabric poms, fabric boutonnieres, fabric EVERYTHING. I love the delicate soft touch fabric gives to the decor, and you can also use it in your home later as soft touches to a room.
I'm planning on making all the invitations, flower arrangements, and many other special touches for the ceremony and reception.
What a cool giveaway – I am newly engaged but I would LOVE to do favors, programs and possibly other projects!
Oh goodness…what am I NOT doing?? haha.. ALL the paper (invites, stds, programs, etc), all the florals, my centerpieces, burlap table runners and an aisle runner, my fascinator and veil, my garter, welcome baskets for OOT guests (including personalized lables w/ our custom wedding monogram on all the treats, waters, and coffee packets), the favors ( caramel apples), and probably more things as I come across them! Im SO excited to find this great blog (and Plumage!), and I know these books would help me organize my projects…as well as come up w/ some new ones…haha!
I'm definitely going to make invitations, place cards, table plan etc and I'm also wanting to make corsages out of beads and buttons – we're not really wanting many flowers at our wedding. Hopefully I'll get some time to quilt some mini-table cloths to put the centrepieces on, and pew ends
I'm hoping to give everyone a swatch of fabric to write a message on so I can quilt them all together at the end!
I am a wedding planner, who also happens to be a bride-to-be! I have planned many fabulous weddings but am cutting my budget short and looking for inspiration to make my wedding as spectacular, if not more so, then many of the amazing ones I have witnessed. These books would give me exactly that, plus I would be able to pass along the ideas to many other people. The book would get an incredible amount of use, which is what such a fantastic book deserves!
I've been busy making homemade peach and pear preserves made from fruit that grew in my parents' yard, soaps from homegrown herbs, and of course maps for walking tours (my mom created a Jewish-themed walking tour for my hometown) for the welcome bags for our out-of-town guests. Thanks to DIY, I also had the idea to order canvas bags and decorate those, too! I'm also collecting cute vintage-inspired (and some actual vintage hand-me-down) photo frames to use for a display of family photographs from both sides, and for signs. I've already got my design put together for flower arrangements, centerpieces and the chuppah – the color scheme is wine and champagne, with pops of purple, and I'm using a variety of flowers, but mostly striped orchids for the tables. As for the stationary, I'll be making the programs, place cards and thank-you notes (with photo collages from our big day!). The wedding is only 6 months away, so I guess it's time to get back to work!
I am thinking of doing all my own decorations and invites…
Ambitious but maybe worth since I have lots of time and less $.
I would like to do anything that might save some money. I'm interested in DIY engagement announcements, S-t-D cards, maybe some flowers, hair accessories, etc. I am afraid that those I've chosen to be in my wedding party might decline because they can't afford it, so if there is anything I can do to get their costs down would be worth it. And DIY makes it more special because it's a personal creation.
I have just recently gotten engaged and I love the whole DIY idea! I love to craft and am so excited to think my wedding can me handmade, and hands-on! I dreamed of a “hippy” wedding when I was younger.. I’m pretty sure that’s going to describe it!
I am planning to DIY our programs, favors, flowers, and guest book so far!
I have so many ideas for my wedding I can't wait to get started. Our wedding is in October on the day we started going together. Halloween is also my favorite holiday so I plan on making a candy buffet which I've already gotten started on gathering up the apothecary jars from various thrift stores. I plan on accentuating that with ribbons and name cards. I'm still thinking about the arrangements of the centerpieces for all of the tables. I'd like to include plenty of candles and lanterns of several kinds along with pumpkins. I love pumpkins. Most of the food I'm getting together myself. Everything is going to be outdoors so I want a sweet rustic feel. I'd like to make the stand for the bridal cake out of wood. I saw something online of it that captured me. I have a friend helping me draw an invitation something very Alice in Wonderland like. Its quite nonsense, but I love the whimsy. Right now I'm working on the Save the Dates on the computer. I've also been looking into patterns to make my own wedding dress possibly.
Almost my whole wedding will be DIY, first I am making my own brooch bouqet, from pieces I own, from my mother who has passed on, and I am not registering for a bridal shower so I am asking everyone to bring a brooch to be added, I feel this has so much more meaning than a real flower bouquet. The wedding will be outside/ family style dinner, I will be making all the center pieces, large grapevine balls decorated with jewels, birds and butterflies. The aisle will be made from silk multicolored rose petals and jewels, and lit path with votives in colored hurricane vases. Oh, and also making the card box out of a wooden birdcage, decorated to match the center pieces and all napkin rings and moss ring pillow.
I'm planning to design my own save the dates, invites, centerpieces, maybe the bridesmaid bouquets, and the welcome baskets (the baskets will have lots of fun graphic elements and itineraries).
I'm making ALL of my own wedding decor and florals! I bought all silk flowers to make every bouquet, boutonnière, and corsage myself, plus decor like centerpieces, vases, and our wedding arch. It's exciting but scary to take it all on by myself! =)
Oh fun! I'm working on a lot of DIY with the help of my mom! She is way more creative then me and we could def. use some help! I'm having a fall wedding… 109 days away now!
We are creating our own programs, invites, wedding favors, the majority of the centerpieces and other decor is all us too.
My biggest problem has been with the centerpieces…but we are slowly figuring things out. Like I said I'm sure your book would be a big help!
I would love to make nearly all of the decor! Flowerpieces, cake table accents, hairpieces, cute matching shoes for the bridal party, etc
Ooooh. I love DIY inspiration! I have a number of DIY projects going on for my wedding:
-My Mom and I are making all the save-the-dates and invitations, complete with embossing, ribbons and paper punch outs.
-I'm knitting a shrug for each of my bridesmaids.
-We're creating all the centerpieces from mini pumpkins and flowers.
-We're screen printing fabric for a bunting banners for the reception.
And I would love to do more!!
im planning on making my own gift box as well as my own guest book. And after the wedding im going to make my own thank you cards. Would love to get some ideas from your books!!
Cool! I'm getting married next September (2011). I'm planning to do my own centerpieces (probably flower or herb planters).
I am planning on doing the cupcake jars, the asian flower centerpieces, and the embossed wedding invites!!! I come from a very crafty family so anything we can do ourselves is a bonus and personally I think makes the wedding your own!!
I'm planning on making the invitations, and most of the decorations. I'm also learning about flower arranging so I can do those myself as well!!!
Only just discovered this site, we got engaged on holiday in France just last week. I'm inspired already!!! currently in a slight state of overload, but I know with our budget we will be trying to DIY almost everything! I love the Save the Day vids, we'll make our own invites, placecards, favours, decorations, dresses and cakes!!! I can't wait, we live in the countryside and we're gonna have a great big marquee on the field opposite our house and it will be brilliant!!
DIY goodness at my wedding shall (hopefully) include: lovely invitations, beauteous centerpieces, the bridesmaids' jewelry, the groom's cufflinks, chuppah decorations, reception venue decorations, cupcakes … and lots more! I could definitely use some guidance from the book. : )
I want to make handmade gifts for my bridesmaids (clutches for the wedding and to be used after) and I want to make handmade signs for the wedding, plus I plan to do all the flowers from bouquets to center pieces and I'm a little bit terrified about that one! Ha.
what the heck. not likely I'll win, but I'm doing the bouquets, bouts (not spelling it out, lol), centerpieces, card box, and anything else I can think of. Also, I designed the invites/announcements and RSVP cards (going to print them at Zazzle) as well as the programs. I'll probably do even more stuff as I think of it, like the garters (now that I'm getting a sewing machine yay!).
We are planning to elope and I am planning to make my dress (either sew or knit, not entirely sure yet) as well as make the floral arrangements. We are actually eloping in a near by town so I'm also contemplating make a little wedding cake for two (with a few “oops” cakes lol)
I'm getting married next year on May Day and I have a ton of DIY projects planned. I already crafted bridesmaid cards with scrapbooking supplies as my first. I plan on doing all of the flowers (which won't be much, as my venue is a garden), centerpieces, favors, and decorations. I also plan on making the hair accessories and jewelry for my bridesmaids. I'm hoping to do the invitations as well, but I haven't decided as to whether I'll design them myself or purchase printables. Don't worry, though, I've talked myself out of doing the dress or the cake. I want to have hair left for my wedding day.
Our wedding is in almost a year exactly and because we are on a semi-tight budget, I'm planning on doing lots of DIY projects! Also because I love the idea of having unique things. I am blessed with a very crafty family (one sister is a photographer, another an artist, my mom is a seamtress and my dad is a word worker!)
DIY Projects:
- Tree trunk cake holders
- Cake toppers
- Wedding Dress (well, at least help my mom!)
- Flowers
- Save The Dates and Invitations
- Centerpieces
- Favors
I would love a copy of the books, it would be SUCH a big help! : )
I am planning to drap the walls of our church gym with polymar I found in a Prom Decorating catalog. I am then going to use balloons attached to small dowells and positioned down the middle of the polymar to create a tent-like feel, oh and to cover the ugly baskeball hoops. I am creating a candy bar with small decorated boxes as a Thank You gift. I am also making my own veil.
I am the Mother of the Bride, but I will be doing all the “crafty” things since my daughter is absolute useless when it comes to crafts (what do you expect from a Marine?!?) We need ideas for favors, programs, invitations, placecards and centerpieces at least. She will be having an outdoor wedding with a beach or maybe garden theme. I need help coming up with ideas!!! This is my only girl so I really want something special and unique for her.
I just finished designing our save-the-dates, but I'm planning on doing the invites, centerpieces, programs, thank you cards and flowers, too! (Probably more, if we have time!)
