Hey DIYers,
It feels like giveaway time! I’m giving away a very special prize: a copy of both of my books. That’s right, you can win 40 Fun Projects For Your Ultimate One-of-a-Kind Wedding and The Crafty Countdown in one neat little package this time.
Here’s what you need to do:
- Leave a comment to this post (posting comments to other posts is perfectly fine but won’t gain you the opportunity to win the prize).
- In your comment, tell me what your biggest DIY dilemma is. Are you having problems finding the right materials? Confused about where to begin? Hopelessly not crafty? Be funny. Be sincere. Be brief or spill your guts. As long as you share your most pressing do-it-yourself wedding concern, you’re entered.
- Enter by February 10th. On February 12th, I’ll pick a random winner. No, wait. I’ll pick TWO random winners. In a few days, you’ll get your books in the mail. Sweet!
The fine print:
- I ask that only brides-to-be (and grooms, too) enter the contest, please. Since they’re the ones in the most need of the info & inspiration in the book, I strongly feel they’re the ones who should have the opportunity to win a copy.
- Open to US residents only this time.
- One entry per person.

My biggest DIY wedding dilemma is trying to balance my new job, volunteering and my desire to make my wedding unique and different by including elements like origami, hand made jewelry and my own invitations into the event. I know getting more organized will help but I could use more tips on quick and easy ideas.

I love all the projects you blog about and therefore I would truly love to win your books! I am having the hardest time with programs….I would like for them to be creative and different from the norm, but am having a hard time transferring my ideas into the real thing!

Just got engaged this past week, so I’m starting from scratch. I think my DIY issue is going to be the decor for the reception. I want it to look classy, not chintzy, since I’m on a tight budget, so I’ll want to do it all myself, but I know that will be totally overwhelming. So I guess I need to figure out what exactly I should prioritize. Fingers crossed!

My problem is that there is a SERIOUS malfunction that takes place somewhere in my arms. I dream of intricate details, beautiful paper and impressive crafts for my invitations, save-the-dates and wedding embellishments. I buy the supplies. I’ve got the vision. I’ve got the drive AND the time. I sit down to make it.
And something goes terribly wrong.
My save-the-dates turn out hideous, resembling a kindergartener’s macaroni project. The invitations lack innovation, and I can’t even cut straight lines to save my life.
And slowly, bit by bit, my wedding becomes a 3rd grade art project nightmare. I need some solid instruction.
Sigh.

My mother is hopelessly crafty and very enthusiastic about helping out! Me, a little less so (dare I admit on both the craftiness and the enthusiasm?) I need help in deciding on projects so that she can take care of the execution.

Even forgetting the fact I can’t even make paper snowflakes that don’t look like all 2.5 (one is half terrier) of our chihuahuas played tug-of-war with them, my major DIY dilemma is that I’m not even sure if I *can* do the “do” part of DIY. I’m paranoid of malfunctioning printers and random arm spazzes that rip my very last practice piece of paper for the invitations. Right now, we’re trying to start small and find some nice wax-stamps to seal the invites with, but I’m having visions of hospital visits due to wax burns.
Halp?

With the ‘Big Day’ looming ahead (June 1st, 2010) I am in high gear with my DIY projects. So far I’ve been gathering materials and scouring the web for copious amounts of wedding porn. The biggest hassle for me is seeing SO MANY awesome ideas and trying to figure out how to incorporate the best ones into our wedding. Our theme is ‘a party that just happens to be a wedding’ and everything’s been aimed at keeping things low-key and non-bridezilla-esque but I feel like I’m going overkill with my plans. Seems like I’m more excited about what favors to make than what the ceremony is going to be like – we’re on a tight budget with me being unemployed and my man supporting the both of us so DIY makes the most sense as well. I’m very fortunate that my fiance is very open-minded and is a web designer so he’s a huge help with our website and invite design, the rest of it is being left in my hands. Oh boy….

My issue; time and coordination. I’d love to DIY, but I am hopelessly uncoordinated, and usually end up injuring myself while leaving a half finished project! I am a graduate student, and spend more time in books and my own head than anywhere close to a craft table.
I would love to do these cool tea-dipped paper projects, and ticket save-the-dates, and a few other cool projects, but no one I know is crafty, either! It’s a conundrum.

My biggest DIY dilemma – not being able to find the time to work on projects. I never seem to have the time to pull everything out, make something, AND clean up… so I just never get started. It’s so frustrating!

I love DIY stuff and get all sorts of fun ideas. My problem comes in finishing the items! I have all sorts of items left out, but nothing done (unless I have a group to assist!).

I’m having trouble pulling the trigger – I have all my colors picked out, amounts decided, and now all that’s left is buying the materials. But what if I mess up! Pressure.

Time. That is my problem, finding the time. I wish everything in my wedding could be DIY. Also, I’m always afraid to begin – to waste materials, waste money, waste time, and just end up seriously disappointed because of it.

my biggest dilemma is too many ideas! i’m having the hardest time narrowing things down. 12 different ideas for centerpieces (which on principle, i don’t even care if i have), 12 ideas for bouquets, etc. i have probably too much sewing to do, between bunting and napkins and whatever else i decide i have to have. i want to learn to make little felted animals. i feel like i keep inventing more needs (like the unnecessary centerpieces) as an excuse to craft!!

My wedding is about as DIY as it can get! However, one project sticks out as my biggest challenge – my centerpieces. I decided early on I didn’t want the usual floral centerpieces. I wanted something different… handmade… and CHEAP. So, one day, while browsing in our local Dollar Store (everything $1!!! WHOO!) I found these brightly colored plaster birds. CA-UTE! And then BAM! It hits me… BIRD’S NESTS! Perfect! I would have bird’s nests centerpieces! Perfect. Yeah… not so much. That was 8 months ago. We still don’t have them constructed. Oh, we have the pieces and parts. 40 plaster birds (did I mention BRIGHT blue and red?) that need to be primed and painted glossy white. I only have 8 of the 13 grapevine wreath I need to form the nests. 6 of the 13 cake rounds for the base of the wreath. I have 4 of the 13 pedestals needed. The pedestals are particularly frustrating. The first 4 were an AWESOME find at… you guessed it! The Dollar Store!!! I went back the next day, no more. I can’t find anything like them for a reasonable price. In short? I’m stuck. I am at the point where I need to (a) channel Tim Gunn and MAKE IT WORK, or (b) create another budget-friendly centerpiece solution. I need help! I need inspiration! I need to WIN!

I love crafting and took on too many diy projects for the wedding so now my biggest issue is trying to find the time to do everything in an orderly non-over-cluttering the house way…
Time, and materials. I keep on thinking of cool ideas only to find out that I got the wrong glue, or stuff didn’t set right…

Okay, so, where to start… Brandon is Canadian and I am American. We decided to do the wedding in Alberta. Planning for all the travel has caused us to reconsider our budget. We have decided to have a small wedding and do as much as we can ourselves including decor, dessert, flowers, and even the cake. My biggest challenge will be time management leading up to the date itself, so I am looking for projects and recipes that I can do well in advance and set up quickly. I am so scared that instead of being calm and collected day of, I will be running around doing everything at once. I do feel crafty, but need to be pointed in the right direction. Thanks for all the ideas already featured on the blog, and I hope to get my hands on these books eventually, one way or another…

Biggest DIY dilemma, where do I start? I’ve always been a crafter, but that means I take on too many projects and don’t always know how to balance my time. My next big project is invitations. Oi.
my biggest problem so far is that i know what i want thanks to wonderful blogs like yours, but i’m in such a small city that i’m not able to find things that i like! that’s what i decided to DIY. now i’m just trying to find materials online!

Its that same old story: Bride on a budget. I am determined to make my wedding something special with lots of little touches. I am DIY-ing almost every aspect of the day, so much so that I started a blog about it. (what? a wedding blog? that’s unheard of!) I have so many project ideas floating around in my head that I need to narrow it down and figure out what is actually going to work. It would be nice to have a collection of ideas in one neat package. Not to mention all those fun projects would be a great excuse for me and my hot glue gun to get together again! Pick me!!
hi! I love your website. I am hopelessy craftless but want a wedding that is beyond the standard options available in the premade merchandise. I’m so scared that I will wait and wait and wait and be so overwhelmed that I show up on my wedding day in my dress and no decorations or flowers ….or food. I am working on it though. I’m doing research and peicing together my own inspiration book of ideas to try. Thanks!!

My biggest DIY dilemma is definitely the fact that I am living in Austin, Texas with my wonderful fiance. We have LOTS of great ideas for getting married in Texas, BUT we’re going back to Northwest Indiana to get married. It’s where we both grew up and met. It would be super easy to buy a lot of this stuff once I get up there, but I knew I wanted a DIY wedding where I could look around and see so much that WE had done for our families and friends. This seems all fine and dandy, but I’m still trying to figure out when / where to do it all. Do I just wait until July 1 when I arrive in Indiana, almost 2 weeks before the wedding, and drive myself insane, or do I work on getting it done now and then risk shipping it all and having to do it all over again…
Thank you for your website, it’s been a great help, though!!!

My biggest dilemma is determining which details of the wedding I can successfully do on my own and what I should leave up to the professional vendors. The key word here is successful DIY projects – sure I can take a shot at doing it all but will it turn out the way I had envisioned? I’d love to add my personality to a few key wedding details and would love your assistance in determining which I can realistically tackle:) Thanks!

My biggest DIY dilemma is that I have no idea where to begin and am beginning to feel slightly overwhelmed by all the work it poses. As an avid reader of great DIY blogs like this one, weddingbee, etc I’m constantly drooling over amazing, beautiful handmade elements that I’m dying to incorporate into our wedding. So little by little the tasks have added up. Which is fine except that I have no one, literally no one, here to help me. My fiancee and I recently moved to a new city and all of our family, friends, etc are spread across the U.S. with not one remotely near us to help with the wedding planning. So between a 50 hour work week and trying to do all my normal activities/duties such as working out, cleaning the house, walking the dogs, etc it seems like I never have any time to start these projects that keep building up. I’ve been putting it off for about 6 months now but it seems like the wedding is racing towards us at lighting speed and before you know it I’ll be getting married and nothing will be done!!! (I actually have this as a recurring nightmare at least once a week. I kid you not.) Your DIY books would seriously help give me the focus and resources I need to pull this off. I’m not naturally all that crafty but for some reason I’m delusional enough to think that I could hopefully, maybe, sorta pull this whole thing off. Please help a desperate gal out!! I would be oh so grateful. Thanks for this awesome chance to win! You rock!!

My biggest problem really is finding crafts I *like*. I’m not really a traditional bride and we are on a pretty serious budget. So not only do a need to find good pictures, but they’ve got to be crafts that really talk to me. I’ve found a couple of awesome ones that won’t cost hundreds of dollars to complete. But I still need more and have 6 months in which to get the supplies bought and crafts done. So I’m on a time crunch too!

I have a few specific DIY dilemmas (place cards, invitations/menus/programs/thank you notes, ceremony aisle decor)… but I’m also looking for some simple DIY ideas to take our wedding from “that’s nice” to “WOW!” I’ve got the ambition, can make the time… just need the inspiration! (Why I RSS this blog in the first place, natch.

I just recently got engaged. I want our wedding to be as personal and unique as possible, so I start making big plans to have everything handcrafted and with my (or our handwriting). My biggest concern at this point is I’m I being overly ambitious with my DIY plans? Should I cut back on some and just buy something already made? I don’t know how to figure out the amount of projects I can actually handle.

My biggest DIY dilemma right now is figuring out where to start! I know that now is the time to get ahead and start my projects (I plan to diy most, if not all, of the stationary, as well as favors and centerpieces), but we don’t even have a reception site or colors picked out yet. I would hate to spend the time making something, then decide to go with a completely different color or style for the rest of the wedding and have my work go to waste. Finally committing to a color scheme and style will be difficult, but will help me get started on my wedding crafting.

My biggest DIY dilemma is trying to do TOO MUCH! I have to prioritize my projects – handmade handkerchiefs, birdcage veil, customized shoe bling, invitations and paper products, helping other friends who are brides with DIY projects … there’s just too much I want to do! LOL
I’d love to win these books. I checked one out from the library, but I can’t keep it forever

My biggest DIY dilemna applies to so many of my projects- how many do I need and what size? For example…I’m thinking of buy paper lanterns and DIY the LED lights…but they come in a zillion sizes! And I really have no idea how many to buy, so I’m trying to picture my outdoor venue right now! I’m also using ribbon for some of my DIY projects…but I don’t really know how many rolls I’ll need and if I should just commit to buying a whole bunch so early before my fall wedding. I remember my cousin ran out of ribbon for her favors, and 2 days before the wedding we drove to 5 different Michaels to try to find the exact ribbon haha.

I love all of the DIY ideas and I want to do them all! I think my biggest problem is going to be taking on too much for the big and since I am doing a destination wedding the transportation issue is going to come into play. I would love to win your books

My biggest dilemma is knowing when and where to start. I keep getting more and more ideas yet haven’t started anything. I have a little more then a year, but I think I should start soon…

I’ll just jump right in- my biggest wedding DIY problem is that I can’t remain focused. I want to do 10 million DIY projects, but I know there isn’t enough time! I need a tool to help me pick what is most feasible, cute, personal, and whimsical given my time constraints. I’m also taking five classes, working full time, hitting the gym five days a week, planning a wedding, and trying to remember to take time for me. My two favorite extracurricular activities are reading and crafting, so winning these books would be hitting two birds with one stone- down time for me, and a focused approach to my pretty, whimsical DIY wedding. So pick me! PICK ME! And be my own, personal, DIY fairy!

Yikes! Time is flying by. I am getting married on May 29. I’m pretty crafty, but I’m also a full-time Ph.D. student, teach, and work. I’m struggling to find time to work on projects like many others who have commented before me. My biggest dilemma right now is centerpieces. We decided not to do floral centerpieces because of our budget. However, many of the other ideas I have come up with end up costing *more* than flowers. Right now I’m thinking about branches with origami cranes hanging from them. However, there is no way I can afford the fancy manzanita branches that people use. I am trying to use branches that have fallen in my yard, but they are rough and uneven. Yikes! I’m a bit overwhelmed.

My biggest DIY dilemma is making my vision come to life. We have tons of DIY ideas that we’d like to incorporate in our wedding. Looking for great deals, clipping coupons, and leaving stores with amazing bargains are not the problem. It all comes down to execution. My fiance and I started making some of our DIY ideas, but to no avail, they don’t look that good.
Your step-by-step directions would definitely help!

My biggest DIY dilemma is that I want to do as many things as I can to save money at my wedding but I am constantly afraid that I will end up spending more money on parts here and there rather than just buying preassembled decorations. Also I know I really want to have crafts that I have created in the wedding day but I am not sure how to balance assembling crafts, working full time and going for my masters all while doing those ‘other’ wedding things too!

I love the idea of making everything for my wedding – but I’m not sure exactly where to start or what will go well together. Mostly I’m excited for a creative outlet!

Hi!
I would have to say that my biggest dilemma is knowing when to stop. I had always assumed that I would craft-it-up when I had a wedding, but I thought that I would be way more interested in my dress, shoes etc than I actually am. But it’s lovely handmade touches to the wedding I crave! Here is what I have condemned myself to so far:
-Sewing linen table napkins for 140
-Making bunting to hang outside the venue
-Making pennants to lead people to the venue
-Making snap purses for the bridesmaids
-making huge tissue paper flower thingers to hang from the ceiling
-Making the music playlist (well, my gorgeous “feyonce” thinks he will have a part, too…)
-Heat embossing my invitations
-Placecards, etc
…and yet. it’s not enough. I need more, more I tells you!
(Also- what will I do when it’s all over…? Whaaa!)

My wedding is very DIY! I’ve already completed SOME projects, started MANY projects, and I’m still investigating OTHER projects.
The one that’s giving me the most grief, I suppose, is making my own bouquet from silk flowers.
Originally, I was planning on having my bouquet and his bout be the only real flowers in the wedding (and have them made probably by my local market florist as I heard it was cheaper that way), but the more I think about it….and the more I see other bride’s DIY bouquets…the more I think I want to make my own.
I’ve tried getting info on it, and have found tutorials, but my biggest problem is picking out the flowers. I’ve looked on SaveOn Crafts, and like the idea of real preserved flowers, but don’t know where to start and I’m very intimidated by this project. Sooooo….anyways, that’s my biggest dilemma.

The biggest DIY dilemma is deciding what theme to go with for our invitations. We’re going to letterpress our own invitations, but finding the right theme which isn’t too complicated yet conveys a unified theme is difficult.

I would love to DIY most of my wedding. Right now I’m just struggling to find the budget for any wedding, DIY or not. Saving every penny!

My biggest challenge overall is how to take all of the different elements in my head and transform theme into a cohesive vision. We want a fun and whimsical wedding that shows our personalities. He’s a gamer geek and I’m a bookworm into all things vintage. How to combine retro/gamer elements with my DIY ambitions? I’m just getting started and am excited to begin…

I’ve never been a crafty person – my biggest accomplishment in this area was coloring in the lines in elementary school. But with a small budget, if I want to have an unforgettable wedding, I’m going to need to have a lot of DIY projects.
But I don’t even know where to start – it makes my brain hurt! There’s so much out there and I’m afraid I’ll take on a task, spend $$ on the supplies and utterly fail. So I guess I need help deciphering what I can do & how I can make the time to do it (seeing as how I have a full-time job!)
I’m thinking of doing a art nouveau/art deco style wedding, but I can’t find a lot of crafty ideas related to that era and don’t know where to look for inspiration. Most vintage-style weddings now seem to be rock-and-roll/1950s era.

My biggest DYI dilemma is our boutonniers. Girly I can do, but I’m really struggling with something sustainable, chic, and grooms-y enough to work with my guys!

I want to make my own invites but there are so many different invites I’ve seen that I like. Plus I don’t have a local paper store to be able to see things in person. I can’t afford to order anything I don’t like!

My problem is I have way too many ideas and don’t know what to do with them or how long it will take me to do everything. I refuse to buy anything I can do myself (even if I never do actually make it). I could for sho need these books!

Oh, where do I start? Before engaged I was a DIY fanatic.. I’d embellish a simple t-shirt, shoe, whatever.. but this whole wedding thing is a different ballgame. My colors for example, chocolate brown, teal and lilac.. Teal is one difficult color to find anything in! Paper, ribbon, tissue paper… tough one. My biggest gripe right now is our centerpieces.. we don’t want to use flowers.. but we want a manzanita branch. Yes, I’m stuck. Please, please help.

My problem like many others is narrowing ideas and committing to them. Luckily I have over a year to get everything done. Now if only I had a year to pick my venue.

My main problem for DIY..is trying to get everything to fit together or match. I pick one thing one day and then change my mind and go a different direction. I go to Micheal’s one day…walk around and buy supplies then wonder if I ‘m going to have time or energy for. Or if it will actually match all the other stuff I bought.

I’m trying to do as much DIY projects for my wedding as possible. Need help with invitations right now…among my many questions, my first and most immediate question is how thick of cardstock should I be using and where do I get the cheapest cardstock online??

My biggest problem is that a)I am not super crafty and b) I’m in medical school, so the time I can allocate to my wedding is very, very slim. This is also compounded by the fact that my fiance and I are not expecting any help from our parents financially, and that the entire wedding planning process is extremely overwhelming. I’m so excited about the day and the marriage, but trying to tie everything together and ensure that all of our guests have fun is exhausting. I need help!!!

my biggest DIY dilemma is that there a tons of things i want to do, and i know i am capable of doing them, but everyone around me thinks i’m crazy for not just paying for things….i enjoy crafting, so it makes me sad, and stresses me out.

I have tons of plans and ideas, but I just don’t know where to start . . . I keep telling myself I still have time, but time is slowly running out.
I am getting married this summer and am a DIY bride! My venue is not the typical place for a reception, so my projects are going to add the touch it needs. I am making the centerpieces, bouquets, table linens. My mother and my sister live 1,000 miles away and all of my bridesmaids live out of state as well, so I could really use all of the help I can get. I (thankfully) have a fiance’ that is eager to learn but I need to show him what to do.. these books would be great not only for me, but would be a great tool for him to use to help!

I am having a simple wedding and do not want to pay $$$ for a simple bird cage veil. My family is great at making food for the reception, but decorating a steel shop or hay barn can be interesting. Any ideas are going to be helpful. Thanks!

I have tonnes of ideas for my wedding this June.I got inspired by your websites and others too.But the biggest problem is I live in Malaysia, and I have problems to find suitable materials and also reference.I wish that I could have one book that I could use as a guidance.I would like to see something that can give me more ideas so that I can use the materials I have here for my wedding.I love crafting and I wish that I can show my appreciation towards my guests by giving them something that I made myself.

I am determined to be a DIY bride. Although I have ’til June 25, 2011 to complete the many projects I’ve already thought of, I don’t have a clue where to begin. I hope to make the bouquets, and table center pieces for the reception as well as decorate the ceremony and reception venues. Invitations and save-the-dates are on the to-do list also. We even considered baking our own cupcakes! What to do and how to do it?! Not only would your books be resourceful, they’d provide me with ideas of how to incorporate all the little things we’d like into one fantastic assembly!
My biggest DIY dilemma is deciding exactly what I want to DIY. I’m pretty creative but I feel if I do invitations, programs, escort cards, the felt bouquets I want, centerpieces, etc. I will be totally overwhelmed!

I’ve never really been a DIY person, but I liked the idea of adding more personal touches for our wedding in September. We’re certainly not short on ideas, but we can never figure out how where to get supplies, or what sort of supplies to buy! Who knew there could be so many different types and shapes of paper one could use for invitations? We’re dying to make luminarias, but the paper selection made our heads spin.

My biggest dilemma is not getting in over my head. I love to be crafty, but with my Type A personality, I don’t want to take on too much. So, it has been a challenge for me to find projects that fit our wedding and are not overly complicated!

I have a huge passion for scrap-booking. I have always made my fiance homemade picture cards for anniversaries, birthdays, etc. Since being engaged I want to go beyond scrap-booking and get really creative, but I need help on ideas and the best materials to buy!
my biggest DIY dilemma is finishing what I start. I always start with such great enthusiasm, but I tend to lose momentum a few hours later. I probably have 10 different unfinished projects hanging around these days.

My biggest challenge during any DIY project is finding an affordable craft supplies. I am always on a budget or trying to save my bride/friends money. Thus, the search for the cheapest price (including shipping) is often a hassle and a half.
Fingers crossed!!!

My problem is too many projects and having to narrow them down — which ones to focus on and which ones to toss. Thanks for the chance!

I would really, REALLY love to incorporate cabbage into my bouquet and also the table arrangements. I’m having a hard time finding anyone who won’t laugh at me when I ask them how to turn an ornamental cabbage into a small flower.
I would LOVE to own your books, they look fabulous!

I’m caught in limbo trying to decide what can be accomplished DIY, to have a fun, pretty, unique wedding, and what will just end up making me feel neurotic and more stressed out than if it’d just out-sourced it the traditional/expensive route.

I am DIYing most of my wedding and have loved your website! I would love to win your books because as a DIYer and trying to save money I have been too cheap to buy them as of yet and would LOVE to own them.
SOOOO here is my biggest DIY demila. I am attempting to DIY my flowers. All of them. I am ordering from a whole sale place, but can not find a good book that shows an easy way to DIY my boquet, boutineers, corsages, etc. All of the books look like they have been written in the 80s and use those awful plastic holders with doilies under them. Why is this? I have found one or two good articles, but the instructions are incomplete or there aren’t good pictures. Also, can’t find a good one on making corsages that are up to date and normal looking! Anyway, that is my issue.
Oh and what is a good & cheap way to disguise a plastic flower pot? I am using a potted gerbera daisy as my centerpieces at the reception and do not want to have to buy 40 pots and repot them all. Haven’t found a good solution for a pretty fix for a nasty plastic pot.
Love the new design for the site & can’t wait to see what else you have up your sleeve!
Currently due to funding issues I am mired and overwhelmed by where to begin in the wedding planning process. My difficulty in using any of the other wedding help sites is they all seem to be planning for weddings with unlimitd budgets (aka a $50,000 wedding isn’t a low budget wedding). When I found your DIY Bride site my fiance, knowing my planning problems thus far, said this was the perfect place for me as we are a DIY kind of couple.
I am most excited and happy when I am engaged and creating. Pair that with creating a beautiful celebration for my friends and family to share with me and my fiance and I believe that is a path worth taking.
Please consider me for one of your DIY Bride books. While I have a general idea of my wedding path (and the love of my life to walk it with me)some sign posts to help me on my way would be appreciated and helpful.
Thank you!

My biggest problem right now is finding the time to plan all my DIY stuff. I’m an undergraduate full-time student, and I’m also working two jobs. So any inspiration, like your wonderful books, would be put to great use!
Thanks for the opportunity.

My biggest DIY dilemma is determining what projects will actually save money if I do them myself, and what projects will cost the same or more and not look any better/more personal than if I bought them!

Oh goodness, where to begin? My biggest DIY problem is I have TONS of ideas on what I want to do and what I think would look cute, but I have no idea where to start, how to do it, or what I need to get it done. Browsing through this site has helped a bunch! It helped to begin to solve my problem of what I need… and then my wonderful, but at times overhelpful, family decided that they want to help. So now, I have a FMIL flying in A WEEK early to help put stuff together for the wedding, an amazing maid of honor who would do the whole thing herself if I’d let her just to save me stress, a step-mom who apparently has been planning the menu since she met FH… (We HAVE to get this woman away from the food planning) and a Fiance who wants to help… bottom line… I NEED SOMETHING FOR THESE PEOPLE TO DO! And a fabulously easy and helpful instruction manual so they know exactly what they’re doing
Sorry, did that turn into a wedding vent? lol. All in all, I love planning my wedding, but I’m really looking forward to being married to my best friend! In the mean time… I could use a little assistance.

I’m Greatful for many things this past year and this new year. My Broom (same sex marrage) to be has stood by my and my and my childrens(3) side, for the past Two years. She has seen my hair fall out, to me needing many meds to all the doctors apts, that she has dropped everything for to be by my side. Throughout all the highs and lows of the Two years she stayed by my side through my sickness and now health. We were to get married a year ago and had to pospone, due to my health. She has told me to go a head and carry on with my wedding planning,I am needing help in many areasbut manley brining the out door in for my 32 wedding tables. Also combining the color Hunter greenwith other colors. Thank You,
Heather

I keep finding more and more things that I could probably do that myself, for so much less, then I search and search out for instructions and tips. i’m having trouble editing my list and finding good, realistic projects.

There are tons of inspiring resources online (like this!) and after doing a lot of browsing/drooling and some hard thinking, I have more promising projects than time or money. Awesome. Exception: food. I want a partial DIY that doesn’t put too much stress on anyone, but still gives a personal touch, won’t horrify the stuffy (e.g., plated), and cuts catering costs so I can serve better food. I want family recipies, some actually cooked by family. I want our first-date-sushi and an hors d’oeuvres table. Stations! No, bento buffets! Borne on waiter’s trays! Giant lazy susans! I have inspiration with a distinct lack of information (though the PDF in the downloads section was lovely).

hi! this is soo awesome, i had to try…and at least tell you that the blog rocks! i cnat exactly say that i am “always a bridesmaid” anymore, so who knows, maybe i will win!!?
so, i am maria, a 29 year old engaged fashion photographer, and a D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R. i just got engaged on december in paris!!! to a really amazing and romantic musician ( i think he is a rockstar..at least he will be one day ), named nick. sounds all fairytale, doesnt it? well, not exactly, lol.
nick and i are from 2 different countries, continents even! he lives in enland, and i am american. he has a work visa, but as i said, he is a musician, so he is always gone ( it totally sucks ladies.. ) so imagine trying to plan a wedding – ( a do-it-ourselfer ) – when A) i dont know where he will be in a month, let alone a year! my answer to “have you set a date?” is 2011-ish…haha. and B) i am apart from my support system, and other half most of the time. he is also a DIY genius, which would be sooo awesome to have, considering i am the girl who would probably staple her fingers together, and get glitter in her eye at the same time ( please dont think i will be using glitter and staples in my wedding…or maybe i will… )
the point is, i need help, a starting point, a resource, a support, and a book that wont judge me even if i do staple my fingers together and get glitter in my eye at the same time.
thanks to you, good luck to everyone, and congrats to all of us!!!

I have so many ideas, but I just don’t have the time do all the projects I want to do after working a 40+ hour week.
well, i’m planning an indoor winter wedding for january 2011, when what i really want is a summer outdoor wedding. i had imagined hanging lanterns & string lights; croquet & bocce ball; peonies & dahlias. so now, what do i do? i want to do as much as i can myself – invitations, decorations, boutonnieres & bouquet.
my fiance’s father passed away recently, so i’m thinking about incorporating a cameo-like profile of him in the groom’s boutonniere. i’m also considering making my own bouquet out of fabric scraps and wire or possibly yarn – i love to sew, quilt and knit.
my fiance raises bonsai trees, so we’re considering those as centerpieces/decoration – maybe with some fabric birds on the branches.
any other ideas?
thanks,
priya

My biggest DIY dilemma? Figuring out what I want to attempt! I keep thinking of things, then finding new things, and even more great ideas, then getting stuck in “overwhelmed” mode. ^^;

I’ve worked in special event catering and seen many of brides spend lots of money to have the exact same thing every other bride has… I want to DIY a lot of my wedding to make it unique and special to me and my fiance. My DIY dilemma is that I have very little experience in DIY and I have many ideas but don’t know how to make them happen and also look pretty and not overtly DIY.

I love pomanders, but they’re so expensive! I’m trying to decide whether I should make them myself. Either in fabric or fake flowers. So it’s multiple decisions: To do it at all, how many, how much time, fabric or flowers? Plus, how can I make them so they look professional when I’m DIYing?

I’m having trouble deciding on where it’s best to invest the money to have professionals do the job vs. pulling off something decently nice on my own. I’m also dealing with the challenge of blending two very different cultural approaches to weddings: my fiance is Indian and I’m a mixed American.

Where to begin??? This is constantly my problem! I have all these great ideas but no idea how to tie them together. I lose my vision with each idea that comes to me. We are trying for a vintage-style, rustic, Southern party. I am down to 75 DAYS! That’s it! And I think I might be giving myself far too many projects, but how could I dare ditch any one of them? And by-golly, I am too much of a control freak to let anyone jump in and help. I am learning how to let go and how not to procrastinate, that’s for sure. It’s so appropriate that my new initials will be M.A.D.! DIY is my lifeblood! I love every moment of the M.A.D.ness! 75 days!

Between completing my master’s degree, working full time and helping my mom and family cope with her recent diagnosis of breast cancer, I am up to my ears in stress! I really want some crafty ideas to keep my mom’s (and my) mind busy on fun wedding items <3

i’m a crafty person but i’m also a perfectionist. i’m going to attempt to hand make approx 200 wedding invitations, thank you cards, programs, etc. i would love to know the most efficient and effective and cost friendly way of doing all this without sacrificing any of the quality and wow-factor!

In need of serious help to safe money on wedding crafts and make it beautiful. Pulling everything together is hard, maybe the books can help. Great blog!

Like many of the other brides on here, I have seen so many great ideas, but want everything to fit together and am creatively challenged. Doing most of the wedding DIY is important to me because we are on a VERY VERY tight budget. I love the projects and ideas I see on this site and would love an entire book of them!

I have always been a crafty girl, and ever since I said “yes” to my best friend I have tried to find ways I can personalize our wedding AND save money at the same time. I long to be a hardcore DIY bride, but with a little over 5 months left before the wedding I am getting nervous. I’ve searched the internet countless times, looking for great ideas, but almost every site I find is so nonspecific and boring until today! I stumbled across your site and I feel so much more confident and inspired! Thanks for the work you’ve done to help us!

I am an artist of many different mediums and would like to DIY my wedding as much as I can handle! My strengths lie more in the print side of things being a graphic designer. But decor is my major dilemma!
The space we are getting married in, is pretty much a huge grey box. But…it’s FREE and big enough for the hoards of people we want to invite. One of the most important aspects of a wedding experience for the guests is the aesthetic of the room where the ceremony and reception happen. I want to transform this room to a gloriously classy space with ornate detail somehow. It’s a really daunting task with such a big boring space. I need help!
My DIY dilemma is that I absolutely hate the idea of spending hundreds of dollars on flowers for my wedding. I want to go entirely flowerless for both the ceremony and for the reception decorations – but none of my family or friends know how to help me! I would love to make button bouquets or paper flowers, but have no idea where to start!

I don’t know how far to go! I’m in grad school full time, and I just don’t know what to try first or how far to roll up my sleeves!

My DIY dilemma resides in linens. I absolutely hate the idea that the rental company my venue uses charges $1 per napkin. I had a vision of creating my own, a different print for each table, and then turning them into something fabulous after the wedding as well. The problem is, the amount of fabric I need amounts to more than the rental cost of the napkins, not to mention, I don’t own a sewing machine. So I would need to spend a lot of time at family members homes in order to get this accomplished, plus my idea for after was a quilt, which I have no idea how to make. So I need to decide if it’s worth it in the end, especially when you tack it onto my already insanely large list of DIY, and my absolute laziness.

My biggest issue with DIY is i never can think of good ideas to make projects! My mom is very crafty, so she helps me a lot once we have an idea – but its getting the idea and figuring out how to do it that i have the most trouble with!

Amazing that you’re doing this give-away. I was just looking through your books at the bookstore this past weekend!
My biggest DIY issue has been realizing how much the bar is raised when you’re trying to create items that are close to professional quality. Basically, my wedding has also become my grand return to the crafting world. So exciting, but also so overwhelming! Growing up, I loved crafting. But there was so much less pressure back then! Mom didn’t really care if her construction paper birthday card had crooked edges. And my best friend didn’t mind if her “friendship bracelet” (remember those?!) had one too many pink stripes. My wedding projects so far have all taken about 10 times the time I imagined as I’m really trying to create something that’s as high in quality as something I would buy! So clearly, time is the big issue. I need projects that can be done a bit more quickly but still really make our wedding shine! The next project I’m taking on is creating a cake stand for our beautiful cupcakes. Meanwhile, my fiance is going to work on our homemade invitations and could really use some inspiration!

My biggest problem is that I get so excited about every DIY post I see that I make them all and then can’t decide which to use! I have about 30 different fabric flowers for my hair made. Thanks for hosting this giveaway!

I am opting for DIY flowers- I’m buying flowers in bulk and putting everything together. But i’ve never done anything florist-like. I keep telling myself it can’t be that hard, but since I can’t even get it done until the few days before the wedding, I’m a little skeptical.

My biggest DIY dilemma is making things myself without them looking like I made them. I want them to still look nice. I’m also wanting to create table center pieces myself. I would definitely get a lot from your books.

Great giveaway! My biggest DIY dilemma is the size of my wedding. We’re expecting about 600 guests, so it’s hard to find projects that are simple enough to do on such a large scale! These books would have some awesome ideas, I’m sure

I’m planning on doing nearly everything possible DIY- from making the Chuppah to having friends brew beer, to making my own invitations and doing my own decor and flowers. The biggest challenge I’m having at the moment is figuring out overhead lighting for an outdoor wedding ceremony. Thanks for doing this!!

I don’t know where to begin and I believe these books could help.
The hardest part about DIY is planning out what materials I need! Esp if I order online, I don’t want to order just one and pay $10 shipping but then if I order ten… what if it doesn’t look good! Ah! It’s always a challenge to find things to DIY that still hopefully sort of turns out looking nice :]

My biggest DIY dilema is knowing what is worth it to DIY and what isn’t. Also – not having enough time to DIY things!

I love the idea of including DIY projects on our special day! We want the kind of wedding that is personal and intimate…and that will leave our guests saying “the details were so them!”
Where I struggle is that we are having a destination wedding (Mayan Riviera) – I need projects that are small and versatile to travel to Mexico with.
I’ve seen beautiful DIY centerpieces, room decor, table settings etc but we do not want to check too much extra baggage (or pay for) or scour Mexico for DIY supplies. I also find that most projects for weddings in Mexico or on the beach include seashells, sea horses, the color blue etc…isn’t there anything less stereotypical?! I want a classy event that just happens to be beachside!
What are some small, personal DIY projects that travel well and avoid the beach stereotype? What should we focus on – welcome bags, ceremony programs, escort cards…? Thank you!!
AH! I’ve been eying these two books for a while.
Moving along though, my biggest dilemma thus far has been my invitations. Everything in my wedding is DIY (and I mean everything. My sister’s making the table cloths for the reception for goodness sake) My plan all along has been to Gocco them so I first needed to secure a Gocco machine. I found one on Ebay for a great price and ordered it. I was so worried about it having to be shipped from a seller overseas and sure enough, I get a cryptic email after about two weeks from the seller that apparently there’s been a problem with shipping but he was in no way responsible once it was out of his hands. So after a couple of days of panic, I get a new email that says everything was worked out. Sure enough, over a week later I get my long awaited package.
Next step was paper and after weeks of trying to make up our minds, my honey and I stumbled across some paper at Hobby Lobby and it was on sale! Score. Unfortunately, I only got half the amount I needed because they were almost out. So literally for almost two months since then I’ve been waiting for it to go back on sale in any store in my vicinity with no luck. I even recruited my fiance to scope out the stores in the town he currently lives in and still nothing. Finally though, I found a seller on a wedding website who had the same paper I needed and was selling her leftovers and so I sprung on it and I’m currently awaiting my paper package!
I haven’t even gotten to printing the dang things and it’s been crazy! I know I could’ve just ordered invitations from a printer but seriously, where’s the fun in that afterall?

My biggest DIY dilemma is deciding where to start, and getting projects to fit with what I think they should look like (I’m a bit of a perfectionist, but I don’t think that high standards are a bad thing, necessarily!). I’ve also been really indecisive as my MOH and I swap inspiration photos, so settling on one idea for favor boxes or centerpieces or whatever has been really difficult so far!

My biggest DIY concern for my wedding is my dress! I work at a costume shop and make ball gowns all the time, but my wedding is 4 months away and I haven’t even started on my dress yet. I want it to be done well in advance of the wedding – I do not want to still be working on it a week before the big day!

My biggest diy issue is figuring out where to start. I am an art major but have hit a major road block with my diy. I am just so lost as to how to make everything I need to make and be sure it looks professional!
I want to do as much own my own as possible. I’m hoping it will save me money as we don’t have an way of paying for the wedding we want.

Well, let’s see.. my biggest DIY dilemma is just.. EVERYTHING. I am not the most creative person. Well, I take that back. I have huge ideas in my head but have no idea how to bring them to life. My mother is being completely awesome and she has had some really cute ideas.. but, this is my day and I want to do things a little different. I just need some “instructions” on how to get this ball rolling. We are getting married at a beautiful park in May and the scenery is breath-taking. It gives me a great start because it is not a totally blank canvas. I just really could use some pointers and starters to help bring this beautiful day I’ve planned in my head, to life. Thank you so much for your website! Wish me luck!

What a great giveaway! Thank you so much for the chance to win your AMAZING books!
This is my problem: I’m very crafty as well as very cheap- but my fiance is not. In fact, he thinks we should just buy everything at full price! And when I say everything, I really mean everything. Who knew he would be so adamant about a catered meal, or a DJ, or a florist doing our flowers? Not me, that’s for sure. So my dilemma is getting him to accept that some DIY ideas can be just as gorgeous and sweet, not to mention way cheaper! Oh well, I still have a little while to work on him before we start putting down large chunks of money, so hopefully I can get him to see the light!

One of the bigger of the many D.I.Y dilemmas that have is that I don’t have a lot of money. I got laid off four days before Christmas (and I thought it would’ve been impossible to pay for a wedding then). I am just really trying to do EVERYTHING myself, because it is SO much cheaper. If I could win these books, that’s that much more money I can put towards my wedding!
Thanks for your time and good luck with finding your winners!

As a bride on a major budget, I would love to DIY as much as I can. My problem is that I am the most un-creative person in the world! Want to make you a powerpoint or create an excel spreadsheet and I am a whiz but making something with my own brain and hands, what? I want to DIY jewelry for my bridal party, and DIY my flowers as well as my favors – but I have no idea where to start! I want something original, classy and I dont want to feel like a big copy cat! I cannot decide what favors I want, so I cant start them! I need help! (Or a bunch of money so I can just buy some fancy stuff and not have to worry about it! Ha!)

I don’t know where to start, I’ve seen so many great ideas online. I want our outdoor wedding to have a laid back, love the earth feel to it. I’d like to do as much of the food as possible to leave room in the budget for a great photographer. My other dilemma is when should I start my projects, so that they are ready in time so I can take a deep breath and relax before the big day.

My biggest dilemma is that I don’t know what I should DIY and what I should leave to the professionals! Also, I don’t know if it will be easier or harder to DIY for a wedding that’s not in my hometwon but in a town 7 hours away.

My biggest DIY dilemma is the matter of time vs. money. I don’t have a lot of either (just started grad school, already a mom), so figuring out the amount of time I have to create something rather than shelling out the bucks to buy it instead is figuring large in my planning. We’re pretty close to the wedding date now (St. Patrick’s Day!), and I’m still figuring out the larger decor projects, putting together cake plates, weighing the various options for linens…. eeek!

Aaargh – where do I start? I have THREE different ideas for invites/save the dates, but haven’t settled on any of them yet and need to get the STDs posted in the next fortnight.
Also, we’re on a tight budget for flowers so I’m trying to find cheap alternatives for centrepieces. I had thought of paper flowers, which can look so cool, but do I go for origami or glued flowers? And what colours, paper, styles? Or do I go for non-floral? Perhaps something with sweets (candies?).
Also, I’m going to do my own cupcakes instead of paying for a wedding cake – but I’ve already tried 8 different recipes for cupcakes and the same number of frostings to find the perfect combination, but am still undecided – and all this baking and tasting is completely sabotaging by weight-loss efforts!
And we haven’t even touched on colour scheme yet…
We’re getting married this September. I have sooo much to do! Some help and inspiration would be very, very, very welcome!

Hi!
My biggest DIY problem is that my hands get clammy when I do intensely hands-on tasks like sewing. All the white delicates become dingy thingies that hang funny and smell kinda weird. I’m going to have to start wearing gloves…
Yeah, it’s pretty gross…but it’s DEFINITELY a problem. =(
I love that you’re having a giveaway of these books!!
My big DIY dilemma is that nearly my ENTIRE wedding is going to be DIY. Decorations, flowers, handfasting cords, jewelry… all is going to be handmade. My fiance and I have a very small budget, and we still wanted to have a beautiful personal wedding, so we’re making nearly everything ourselves (with the help of my bridesmaids) to save money while still having the wedding of our dreams. Time is going to be a big issue, but I’m still trying to find the projects I really want to use. I’ve been scouring the web and buying and browsing books to find inspiration, and I’ve had my eye on your books for a while!! Given our limited finances, free books would be amazing!!

My biggest wedding dilemma is keeping with in the budget. This bride is creating all of her own wedding favors (and I haven’t even started yet) and decorate the reception venue with the assistance of the wedding party. I am not confused, but I will say I am wedding challenged.

I feel my largest concern 1. time, 2. my favors, 3. the standard or expectations. Time is self explained, my favors i am just at a lost for ideas. I am a graphic designer, so I feel a lot of pressure from friends and family to create stellar DIY projects. The standard or “the bar” is really high for me to deliver professional quality projects.

I am not sure I have A biggest DIY dilema, but TONS of DIY dilemas. I have so may ideas, themes, and wants for my wedding but I don’t know what to do. I am crafty and have a very small budget.
I want original, but classy, elegant, extravagant. I need a concrete thought! But DIY has been my starting point. I love the online ideas but i feel like the books will be that much more helpful. And even if I don’t win I appreciate the help I have gotten already from the DIY ideas. Thanks!
We are getting married December 31st and I cant wait for the happiest day of my life with a man I have loved since the day I met him!

Thanks so much for this giveaway! Filling this out is a fun break from my stress. My DIY problem is invitations. I have about a hundred awesome engagement pictures that i would love to use, but I am having a hard time trying to figure out how to use them without it looking like a Christmas card, know what i mean? I’m thinking like the Christmas cards you get that are printed on picture paper from Costco. I would love to make them have a little “us” in them but not look tacky. That is my current problem. I have been thinking maybe just making 4X6 prints of my favorites and then have the invitation printed on velum and tied in front or something… but i don’t know how i would attach the two pieces. I really want to make my invites unique by DIY, but I can’t make a decision about how.

My biggest DIY dilemma is decision-making! I consider myself super crafty (although totally humbled by your blog)… But I’m constantly finding/coming up with DIY projects for my wedding and it’s kind of overwhelming. I had a dream the other night about escort cards… I think I might need a 12-step program.

I have big aspirations for creating things for my wedding (center pieces, invitations, gifts, etc) but have not had that creative spark hit me yet. I definitely need some ideas to get me going!

My biggest issue is there are so many ideas out there that I want to do EVERYTHING myself, even though I realize it may not be realistic. I’ve also turned into an insomniac, staying up every night searching for wedding ideas online!

I have been hopelessly searching online for great ideas for do-it-yourself centerpieces, favors, etc. My most recent idea was putting silver branches into a lighted vase for centerpieces…when sharing my idea with my fiance, he replied “we are putting dead painted branches on tables, I DON’T THINK SO!…”. apparently I need some help from a professional! To all other brides out there, good luck with the planning! I am trying to enjoy every minute of this time because I hear it flies by! I hope you are all doing the same!

I was flipping though your book “The DIY Bride Crafty Countdown” at the bookstore the other day, and I fell in *love* with the wood laminate invitations! My fiance and I want our wedding to have a “rustic fall” feel, if that even makes any sense
, and those invitations seem to fit our idea perfectly! The centerpieces that we’re in the process of creating include glass cylinders sitting on a slice of wood. And I thought it would be so neat to create those invitations to help tie everything together. However, I’ve been a little discouraged by trying to find all of the right materials. It’s just so overwhelming! I consider myself a somewhat crafty person, but when it comes down to it, all of the tools and techniques just seem so foreign! I’m really interested in doing several DIY projects for the ceremony and reception, and I believe that your books would help tremendously! Thank you so much for this opportunity and for considering me for this giveaway!

I feel like a true DIY bride is someone who wants to give her wedding a personal and unique experience for the groom, bride, wedding party & guests. I want our wedding to represent my fiance and I in every way, and I feel like there are one of two ways to do that either pay the big bucks for a wedding planner or DIY–and I’d choose the DIY route any day! Right now, my biggest DIY dilemma is to figure out how to decorate a ceremony & reception space without spending boo-ku bucks on floral arrangements. The wedding is going to be outside under a huge oak tree, and I’d like to subtly decorate the space to make it feel intimate and interesting. Along with the ceremony space, I hope to think of some creative ways to add some personal elements to our reception area- something that reflects us as a couple and that is a bit more interesting than the usual flower centerpiece…Any advice or ideas would be so greatly appreciated!
Thank you so much for your consideration! I’d love to read your books to gain some inspiration for this DIY decoration dilemma!

I am collecting vintage/antique wedding photos to incorporate into centerpieces for my vintage inspired wedding. The problem is… I don’t exactly know what to do with them! I like to think of myself as an “almost there!” visionary. I have creative ideas… but never seem to know quite how to execute them. So, my biggest DIY dilemma is figuring out how to incorporate all of my crazy ideas into one cohesive, well-executed… something.

My biggest DIY problem is that I get too overwhelmed with all the options out there. My DF and I are trying to keep our wedding on a budget so at the moment I’m struggling with what to do about invitations. I want to DIY, but I’m hopelessly uncrafty. Well, I can be crafty, but I need inspiration! I hope to find plenty of it here

Wow! Amazing that you are doing a book giveaway! I was just told yesterday that the DIY projects are online so I was planning on printing each one out individually. Obviously this would be more conducive to keeping all the projects in one place!
My fiance and I are planning on doing everything for our wedding with a DIY spin. With the exception of Photographer and Caterer. We have a huge challenge in that our budget is around $3,000 and approximately 100-125 guests. We also live in LA which can be another challenge altogether because the wedding industry here is so booming that prices just continue to sky rocket over things like Cakes and Locations. I think scheduling and giving ourselves enough time for all the DIY projects will be the biggest challenge!

Pick me! I just got engaged, and although I have a long time before the wedding to come up with ideas, I’ll need all the inspiration out there since I’m DIYing almost everything other than the food!

My most challenging DIY obstacle so far has been my mom! Craftiness has never really been her thing and she thinks all of my home-made touches are going to come of as cheap and childish… hopefully I can make everything look finished and polished and she will see that it’s worth it in the long run
Thanks for the giveaway!
