Multimedia Month: Win An iPod Nano!

Posted by Khris in Contests

It’s not much of a stretch to say that the iPod has changed my life. I got my first about a year and a half ago as a birthday present from Mr. DIY. I wasn’t sure I really wanted it but after only a week, I couldn’t imagine life without it. It’s just that cool.

And now I want you to experience the coolitude that is the iPod. I’m giving away a 4 GB silver iPod Nano as part of Multimedia Month. For those of you looking to have an iPod wedding, this baby’ll rock your world!

Of course you’ll have to work for this one, my friends. This particular contest requires some creativity and action on your part.

How to enter:
To enter leave a comment (text or video) to this post with a list of your Top 10 “Get Off Your Butt and Dance!” Songs.  In other words, what songs would make your guests boogie oogie oogie on the dance floor? Your comment submission will automatically enter you in the contest.

Your entry must include:

  1. Your top 10 dance songs with exact song name and artist
  2. Your wedding date

Incomplete entries will not be eligible the contest.

Deadline:
I will accept entries from July 18 through July 31. On August 01, I will pick my Top 10 favorite entries and will then let you, my dear readers, vote for the winner. The final winner will be chosen on August 15th.

See contest details after the jump.

Please read BEFORE you enter the contest.

Being a huge music lover and a music reporter, DJ-ing my own wedding through an iPod is quite possibly the best thing ever. Here are my picks for tunes that will get everyone on the dance floor.

    1. Madonna, “Express Yourself”
    2. David Bowie, “Let’s Dance”
    3. The Rapture, “Whoo! Alright-Yeah…Uh huh.” (The breakdown at the 2-minute mark is insane.)
    4. Billy Idol, “Dancing With Myself”
    5. Depeche Mode, “Just Can’t Get Enough”
    6. The Go-Go’s, “We Got the Beat”
    7. Michael Jackson, “Don’t Stop ‘Til You Get Enough”
    8. Prince, “Let’s Go Crazy”
    9. Justice, “D.A.N.C.E.”
    10. Beck, “Mixed Bizness”

Our wedding will be on April 10th, 2009 at a remote chapel by the lake in Eureka Springs, AR at sunset. We are planning on using my junkie old mp3 player for the music beacuse of costs and I am not sure if it can hold up until then. We have maxed out every dollar from every bit savings that we have and still come up short. So winning this would be a miracle for us. I know that It may not seem as exciting to some but we really need this.

Our wedding is all about those who love us… and that’s quite an age range! To please them all (and not torture them with over-played songs) these are my Top 10 “Get Off Your Butt and Dance!” Songs”

    1. “Boogie Shoes” by K.C. & the Sunshine Shoes:
Watch my disco-era uncles drop their engineer professions for their first love… polyester!

    2. “I was made to love her” by Stevie Wonder… It’s Stevie. He was made to love you. Need I say more?

    3. “Do you love me” by the Contours. Anyone over 50 remembers it when it came out… everyone else loves it for the “Dirty Dancing” memories

    4. “Do you believe in Magic” by The Lovin’ Spoonful

    5. “You Make me feel so young” by Sinatra. Three words: Grandma. Grandpa. Dancing.

    6. “Time after time” by Rick Nelson. The sweetest, most danceable and upbeat song ever! Has the quintessential love wrapped in every bar.

    7. “Don’t you worry bout a thing” by John Legend

    8. “Beautiful” by Snoop Dog. Enough of a beat but leans on some reggae–allowing people to break it down without offending anyone!

    9. “I Like to Live the Love” by B.B. King

    10. “Lovely Day” by Bill Withers. Because that’s what this whole thing is all about.

p.s. “Everlasting Love” by Natalie Cole would have been fabulous… but now it’s tainted by those goofy eHarmony commercials!

As I’m not really inclined towards popular music, so I probably have an odd sense of what constitutes get up and dance music.* But here are some things that make me get up (when I’m not swing dancing, anyway!)

    1. The Magic Position by Patrick Wolf. Because joyous music is the best excuse to dance.

    2. Pump It Up by Elvis Costello

    3. Such A Lovely Thing by DeVotchKa. Amazing indie-gypsy music.

    4. Like A Feather by Nikka Costa. We all have to get funky sometime.

    5. You Can’t Stop The Beat from the Hairspray OST. Dancing! Love! Happiness!

    6. Stupidly Happy by XTC

    7. Love To You by The Beatles

    8. Young Folks by Peter, Bjorn & John. It’s been everywhere, but it’s still awesome.

    9. And I Was A Boy From School by Hot Chip

    10. The Time Warp from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. I guess this one relies on your guests being a little nerdy (we’ve got that one covered!), but hey, the dance steps are outlined in the song.

*Except Outkast. Everyone likes to shake it like a polaroid picture.

here’s the list of songs that make me dance and i hope it makes some others too…
    10. Brown-Eyed Girl – Van Morrison (being one myself, i always dance to this one)
    9. The Twist – Chubby Checker
    8. We Are Family – Sister Sledge
    7. YMCA – The Village People (i know people complain about this one but even if you don’t get up and dance for this one, it’s hard not to sit in your chair and still make the letters with your arms)
    6. Shout – The Isley Brothers (my favorite part of this is when everyone is crouched down to the floor and still dancing)
    5. 8 Days A Week – The Beatles (it’s hard to pick a beatles song because they’re all just so good for all generations)
    4. Sweet Caroline – Neil Diamond (this one works everywhere but goes over even better with my Red Sox fans crowd)
    3. Last Dance – Donna Summer
    2. Livin’ on a Prayer – Bon Jovi (this one’s great because everyone sings along too)
    1. Proud Mary – Ike & Tina Turner (i can’t stop myself from dancing like crazy to this song, even in my car)

    5. 8 Days A Week – The Beatles (it’s hard to pick a beatles song because they’re all just so good for all generations)

Our wedding day is September 20, 2008, and music will play a huge part of it! These are the songs that I think no one can sit down during (good thing, because I can’t WAIT to dance!)

    3. Pour Some Sugar on Me, Def Leopard
    4. How Do you Want It?, Tupac

The date is May 2, 2009. We will celebrate with friends and family who love to sit around and tell long-winded stories over dinner and then get up and dance into the night! We are going to set up a portable dance floor at the edge of a field and will definitely be using an IPOD, so the prize would help us save the cost of that line item on our budget. There will be strings of lights around that dance floor and hopefully lots of people with their hands in the air. These other song lists are so fun—thanks everyone, I’m definitely going to borrow some ideas from you!

    1. “At Last,” Etta James. (Maybe not so dance-ey for the other people, but it’s my first-dance pick and definitely how I feel about finding my husband-to-be!)

    2. “Jessie’s Girl,” Rick Springfield. (This is because oops I met my fiancé when I was dating his friend—thank goodness things turned out the way they did. I don’t know if we should actually play this, but it would fit the get-them-up-and-dancing bill for the people whose glory days were in the 80s.)

    3. “Say Na Say Na,” Aneela, Johan Bejerholm & Robert Uhlman. (No one could possibly sit still while this is playing.)

    4. “You Shook Me All Night Long,” ACDC.

    5. “Baby, Let’s Play House,” Elvis Presley. (Or maybe “Burning Love.” I’m a Memphis native, so Elvis will definitely be in the building so to speak that night.)

    6. “Here Comes Your Man,” Pixies.

    7. “Heart of Glass,” Blondie.

    8. “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” Fergie. (This one is the special request of the four and six year old flowergirls.)

    9. “I Drove All Night,” Cyndi Lauper. (Or Roy Orbison’s version.)

    10. “In the Garden,” Van Morrison. (An alternative to Brown-Eyed Girl. Pretty and happy for the winding-down portion of the evening.)

Only 10? I haven’t even started on ABBA yet.

Our wedding date is set for April 18, 2009. We originally planned to marry in May 2008, but I was in a serious car accident 10 days before our wedding date,so the wedding had to be cancelled. I haven’t been able to go back to work yet, so our wedding next year is going to be all DIY, due to our change in financial circumstances.

Great contest! I plan on perusing this list for my own dance song selections when I get to that point… I think the key to a good mix is variation of genres so that it stays interesting. With that in mind, here’s my contribution:
    1. “Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough” by Michael Jackson
    2. “Yeah” by Usher
    3. “Just Like Heaven” by The Cure
    4. “You Shook Me All Night Long” by AC/DC
    5. “Low” by Flo-Rida
    6. “Brown-Eyed Girl” by Van Morrison
    7. “Crazy in Love” by Beyonce
    8. “Bust a Move” by Young M.C.
    9. “What I Like About You” by The Romantics
    10. “Bye, Bye, Bye” by N’Sync
