Home Real Weddings Blue Weddings Mary + Brad’s Beautiful Blue Tahoe Wedding

Full confession – I have never been to Lake Tahoe, but I’ve always wanted to go. I had a friend in high school whose parents had a home there and I was always floored by the beautiful colors and rich natural landscape. This would lead me to be a little envious of Mary and Brad’s wedding, if they just weren’t so fabulously adorable and the wedding so full of beautiful DIY touches.

From Mary: We met on match.com. . . right away he was easy to get along with. We chose Tahoe partly because it’s so beautiful and partly so we could make it into a weekend event with friends and family coming in from all over California, plus from the east coast. Mourelatos was affordable, but also gave us a venue where no one had to leave if they didn’t want to. Brad suggested getting married somewhere that we could go back to every year for our anniversary (he might be more romantic than I am), and Tahoe fits that perfectly.

I had never envisioned any type of wedding for myself, so once I started planning it all came from the location. I’m hoping that the views of Tahoe itself will be the major decoration. I was going for a “rustic” casual look that seemed to work. And without the internet, most of this never would’ve happened. I found the venue through a caterer’s website, found all other vendors through that caterer, and went from there. Our caterer suggested that colored linens work better at this particular venue, so I went with one of my favorite colors — teal blue. That was the strongest color, with burlap runners on the tables, white flowers in a variety of clear bottles and vases, and light aqua napkins. I’ve done a lot myself, like printing out the name cards using a scanned image from my invitations.

I'm Whitney, your friendly neighborhood DIY Bride content contributor. I live in the Pacific Northwest (land of great beer, even better coffee, VooDoo Doughnuts, and lots o’ rain) with my hubby and our two dogs. A native Oregonian, I'm into hiking, trips to the beach, wine tasting, and farmers markets. My favorite activity has to be curling up in a chair with a good book and James Taylor on the stereo, after a day of madly crafting, baking, and writing. Along with working with DIY Bride, I also plan weddings and events in the Northwest.
