Venue Spotlight: The Banjo Paterson Cottage (Australia)
There is something irresistibly captivating about old world charm. Historical buildings have a certain romance; they are history’s confidants, the keepers of secrets, stories and romances. They also provide a magical canvas for all kinds of DIY wedding embellishments.
For these reasons and about a hundred more, Banjo Paterson Cottage remains one of my favorite Sydney wedding venues.

The location:
The charming cottage – and it is oh-so charming – sits on five acres of harbor-side parkland in Gladesville, a northern suburb of Sydney (Australia), overlooking the surrounding bays of the area.

What makes it particularly special:
One of Australia’s most famed poets , Banjo Paterson (so famous he’s featured on the country’s $10 bill), spent a part of his youth here in the 1870s. The cottage is also a valued relic of Australia’s colonial and convict (arhhmm) history, and is protected by the National Trust for its historical value.

Why it’s great for DIY brides:
The beautifully landscaped gardens are ripe for DIY embellishments and personal touches – especially if you’d like to have an outdoor ceremony on-site. Inside the open fireplaces and sandstone walls are begging to be juxtaposed with floral arrangements, bunting, pom-poms, and anything else your crafty heart desires.

Other info:
The Banjo Paterson Cottage has made a name for itself as an excellent dining destination, and knows its way around seafood in particular. Snapper, oysters, prawns, scallops – a world of deliciousness lies therein.
Due to its idyllic position on the water, adventurous brides and grooms (as well as guests) can travel to and from The Banjo Paterson Cottage by boat or water taxi.

Sizing up:
When it comes to fitting in your nearest and dearest, The Banjo Patterson Cottage is relatively accommodating. The cottage is split up into several rooms, which can be used privately or in conjunction with one another to cater to your needs.
- West Verandha – the largest room, which can wow up to 54 seated guests with water views
- South Verandha – has access and views over the gardens and can seat up to 34 people
- Bay room – a quaint room for up to 12 seated guests
- East Room – an intimate room which can be set up for up to 20 guests, and has direct access to the landscaped court yard.
Of course, you can book out the entire venue – including the grounds – exclusively for your wedding. The venue can accommodate 130 seated or 300 cocktail guests.

Price Range:
The Banjo Paterson Cottage has a range of seated-function and cocktail-function options.
Seated wedding reception choices begin at $90 AUD ($95 USD) per person for canapés, a three-course meal, coffee, and petit fours, and go up by $40 AUD ($42.25 USD) per person for a 5-hour house beverage package, or $60 AUD ($63.40 USD) for a 5-hour premium beverage package, the latter of which includes bottom shelf spirits.
