A Behind The Scenes Look At DIY Bride

Category: blogging

Do you know your audience?

A week or so ago I posted my first reader survey since 2007. Though the results are still coming in, I’ve been surprised by some of the data.
Some of the cool stuff: There’s been a major shift in the budget demographics with strong upticks in the percentages of both micro budget and luxe budget [...]

Authenticity

{This was originally posted on the main DIY Bride blog in December. It has been at the forefront of my thoughts lately and thought it relevant over here.}
Last weekend I participated in a holiday boutique at the art studio where I teach. Originally I had planned to sell a series of kick-ass prints but the [...]

Technology + Me: A Love Story (Or Not)

I wish I could say that DIY Bride is the product of a dedicated team of smartypants nerdly types who bring together the best in custom blog technologies and web gadgety goodness but I can’t. It’s just me here toiling away on the backend and trying my best to figure it all out without, you [...]

Catching Fakers

My Fake Commenters and IP Addresses post generated some questions from you guys. Several of you wanted to know other ways to spot sneaky vendors who try to pose as brides in effort to promote their company/product. This happens quite a bit and it’s maddening, really. For those of us who work very hard on [...]

Fake Comments + IP Addresses

6 comments within 5 minutes of each other on 6 different posts from 6 different people. Not terribly unusual. Normally I wouldn’t be too concerned but, wow, look at those IP addresses. They’re all the same. How could that be? Hmmm…
This is something I’m seeing more and more lately. Sneaky vendors – or bloggers looking [...]

Speaking of those FTC guidelines …

Media Bistro has posted some important clarifications about the new FTC guidelines.

The citation amount isn’t $t11k. It’s $16k.
The FTC doesn’t issue the fines. Violations go through the Federal court system.
The FTC has never brought a case against a consumer endorser. They go after the advertisers.

Fast Company has a nice roundup of questions from prominent bloggers [...]

The FTC Hoopla

On Monday the Federal Trade Commission released new rules regarding paid endorsements on blogs. I think the blogosphere momentarily imploded from all the panic and hand wringing. For most bloggers the new rules aren’t a big deal. Nothing to see here. Carry on.
Some bloggers (in and beyond the wed industry) are paid by companies to [...]

Top 10 Mistakes I’ve Made As A Blogger

10. Anti-social behavior. I’ve not been interactive enough with the blogging community here (and beyond) DIY Bride. I’ve not kept up with responding to commenters and connecting with other bloggers as much as I feel I should. This is something I’m working very hard at right now. Loving it!
9. Back ups? You mean every 10 [...]

The “C” Word

The two big questions I get of late are “What do you think about your competition?” and “What do you think about the explosion of DIY sites?”.
My answer is pretty straight-forward: I love them.
When I started a billion years ago, there weren’t many resources for DIYers (and those that did involved inordinate amounts of tulle-wrapped [...]
