A Day In The Life
by Khris
7:00 a.m.: Get Zion out of bed, change his diaper, get him out of his jammies.
7:15 a.m.: Head downstairs. Turn on news. Grab some breakfast (for me) while Z crawls around on the floor.
7:16 a.m.: Pull Z away from the DVD, modem, and other assorted cords that we need to childproof.
7:18 a.m: Pull Z away from the kitties, especially the one that outweighs him and is, well, quite surly.
7:25 a.m.: See 7:16 a.m
7:30 a.m.: Put breakfast dishes in sink. Check email real quick to see if there’s anything urgent. Respond.
8:00 a.m.: Feed Z his breakfast. Put on re-runs of West Wing in background.
8:30 a.m.: Start Z’s routine of play and story time.
9:00 a.m.: Put Z down for morning nap. Grab a quick shower.
9:15 a.m.: Do a quick house clean up – whatever is most urgent: dishes, sorting laundry, scrubbing toilets (oh, the glamourous life of a blogger!), trash, etc.
9:45 a.m.: Z is wakes up (on a good day; the morning nap is getting shorter). Change diaper.
9:50 a.m.: More play time for Z, mostly unstructured, while I check the forums with much interruption to pull the child away from the things that can kill him.
10:30 a.m.: Morning walk to PO or more play time for Z. Diaper change, I’m sure.
11:00 a.m.: Lunch for Z, followed by another nap.
11:30 a.m.: Lunch for me. Check email, respond to most urgent, try to follow up on others. Some days are better than others.
12:30 p.m.: Z wakes up. Play time! Hey, wouldn’t it be fun to try to roll off the changing table while getting a fresh diaper? Wheee!
1:00 p.m – 3:00 p.m.: More story time and activities for Z. Try to get more household stuff done like dinner prep, feeding the kitties, paying bills, housework while he’s busy.
3:30 p.m.: Z may or may not take a nap. <insert multiple diaper changes between here and bed time>
4:oo p.m.: Jason gets home. We do a recap of our days, say hello, spend a few minutes of quality time together and then I head to work.
6:00 p.m: Work is interrupted for dinner.
7:00 p.m: Bath time for Z. Feeding. Bed. Jason usually handles this. I end up helping.
8:00 p.m.: Back to work for me! This is when I get the most work done.
11:00 p.m.: Bed, though I really really really want to watch The Daily Show and Colbert.
12:00 a.m.: Z wakes up. Rock-paper-scissors with Jason to see who’ll attend to him. Change his diaper, put him back to bed.
4:00 a.m.: Early morning feeding or general fussiness. Hopefully back to sleep by 4:30 a.m.
Then the whole routine starts again at 7:00 a.m.
Are you exhausted yet? This, my friends, is why it take a few days to get back to you.
