Jarod + Nicole
Happy Tuesday and a big congratulations to all the couples who got engaged over the weekend! No doubt you’ll be diving headfirst into the planning process this week by gathering inspiration online and marveling over all the pretty that DIY Bride has to offer. The Real Weddings section is a great place to start since the weddings we feature are great examples of how to make your budget stretch while infusing the spirit of you and your intended into the details of your day.
Today we have the wedding of Jarod and Nicole, who created their wedding around a beachy ocean theme. They were married in an outdoor ceremony near the water, and their inspiration was present in the starfish charms on the wedding stationery, color palette of navy and watermelon, the sand dollars and seaglass used in the decor, and the rosa rugosa seeds used as favors for the guests. Nicole DIY’d most of the elements of the day, including the florals, invites, cake topper, bedazzling her shoes, and sourced her materials for inexpensive decor from Goodwill, Michael’s Crafts, JoAnn’s and Etsy.

With all the tradition that surrounds a wedding, sometimes it’s easy to forget to enjoy your wedding day. Sometimes, you just need to jump on the bed with excitement about getting married – in your wedding dress, just like Lauren did before her ceremony with Ezra. Lauren and Ezra infused their lively personalities into the table numbers, I Spy game, programs, sweets buffet, and even included their dog in the wedding ceremony,

Last week we showcased a beautiful wedding that was pulled together in four weeks, and today I wanted to switch around and present nuptials that fell towards the other end of the spectrum. Amy took her time planning and creating the elements of her wedding to Leif, and it shows in the cohesiveness of the details. Since their venue was a farm, she wanted a rustic feel and spent many hours sourcing pieces for the decor from thrift stores and even more hours crafting. A unifying theme to both of these weddings is the adherence to a color palette – Amy and Leif chose a green and brown scheme with touches of yellow. While picking colors is not always a necessity, it does provide a great framework to work within when whittling down your decor and flower options.

With only a month to pull together a wedding, some couples could buckle under the pressure, or simply scurry on down to the courthouse. However, Anne and Mark decided to take the bull by the horns and create a beautiful DIY day with their abbreviated timeline. Members of the Sequoia Yacht Club, they chose to have the wedding there to celebrate their love of sailing, and members of the club banded together to assist during the day – one member was the bartender, and another built the trellis where the ceremony took place. Anne purchased her florals wholesale, created the blue tablecloths for the tables, and purchased vases from IKEA to create easy centerpieces.

The engagement session of Will and Danielle is full of whimsy, sunshine, and small furry bunnies – so you know its Alice in Wonderland vibe is going to done well. It’s interesting, with this shoot there are a lot of props, but instead of being distracting like some can be, they highlight the smiles of the couple and create an atmosphere of love. Speaking of, you can DIY all the props and decor in this shoot or source it from antique and resale stores (even your grandmother’s attic), or find them on Etsy like Danielle and Will did.
