2011 Reader Survey Results #1

Posted by Khris in DIYBride News

We recently wrapped up our 2011 reader survey and the results are quite fascinating this year. Thank you to everyone (over 1000+ respondents this year, bless your hearts) who took the time to tell us what’s on your mind. Every answer helps influence the direction of DIY Bride by giving insight to the budgets, themes, craft choices, and wants/needs of our audience.

I thought it’d be fun to share some of our findings with you.

Demographics

  • 32.8% of you are 18 – 24
  • 54.1% of you are 25 – 34
  • 95.1% of are you are brides
  • Geographically, you’re all over the place. The mid-western states are well represented as well as crafting hot spots like Oregon, California, Texas, and NYC. We’re seeing a big uptick in our international audience, too.
  • 1.6% of you are the mother of the bride or groom
  • 9.8% of you are just curious about crafts. This was a big surprise! Hello to you!)

Budgets

  • 56% of you have budgets under $10,000. This was a big surprise, too. That’s a pretty dramatic increase over last year. Has the recession finally caught up with the wedding industry?
  • 25% of you fall squarely in the mid-range budget demographic.
  • 5% of you are in the luxe range (over $60,000), a big increase from only 9% just last year.
  • 31.7% of you have not budgeted for your wedding crafts. (What?!?! Please, please, please get those budgets set. DIY overspending is a huge source of stress and top cause of failed DIY projects.)
  • 25% of you will spend up to $500 on your DIY awesomeness.
  • 25% of you will spend $500 – $1500.
  • 18.3% of you have craft budgets of $1,500-$3,000.

Your Weddings

  • 6.8% of you are having small (under 30 guests) weddings
  • 13.6% of you are having 30-50 people
  • 30.5% of you are having 500-100 guests
  • 35.6% of you are inviting 100-200 people
  • 13.6% are going large with over 2oo guests
  • Top themes or wedding styles for 2011 – 2013: vintage, rustic chic, alternative, country, eclectic, elegant, handmade, traditional.

Your thoughts about us

We asked if you’d like to see DIY Bride expand into other areas. What you didn’t want: baby/child. Whew! It’s not a market our hearts were in. What you did want: DIY Home. That’s actually been in the works for a while now. Look for the launch in 2012!

The vast majority of you are interested in a DIY Bride magazine. It was split between digital and magazine format. As you may already know, our digital magazine is launching in September.

As for what you want from us: more DIY content. We hear ya! Look for heaps of new DIY projects, tutorials, videos, and other how-to goodness coming up.

In our next post, we’ll talk a bit about what projects y’all are making; some good stuff and pleasant surprises there.

Industrious bride and groom, Casey and Dan, created nearly all of the details for their York, Maine wedding. Casey, the picture-perfect DIY bride, created the programs, the centerpieces and all the other decor. Wow!

What we love about this wedding: The bright and cheerful fuschia and white color scheme adds a beautiful burst of color without being overwhelming. Dan and Casey did a fantastic job choosing their projects and incorporating them into their wedding. Little details like the scalloped edges on the programs and using big, ultra pretty lilies in the bouquet add the right amount of pop.
