My personal copies of The Crafty Countdown arrived today! Check it out:
This is honestly a very emotional thing for me, to see this book in its final form. The making of it was exceedingly difficult. This was The Book From Hell. Highlights:
- Soon after I signed the deal I found out I was pregnant. This was a joyous thing, of course, but starting at week 7 of pregnancy I developed something called hyperemesis gravidarum which is extreme morning sickness. I was nauseous all day, every day, for 17 weeks straight which made me lose almost 25 pounds during the pregnancy.
- At week 14 of my pregnancy, about the time the 1st half of the manuscript was due, my husband had a grand mal seizure and was out of commission for 6 weeks. (Hasn’t had one since; we still do not know the root cause…weird.)
- UPS totally obliterated 3 boxes of projects I sent to NYC for the photo shoot. My publishing team had to scramble to re-create projects with supplies they found and the few I could scrounge up on my end in just a few days time.
It was supremely stressful; at times it seemed impossible and I was so close to not completing it on a few occasions. But now… here it is. And it’s beautiful! I’m so thankful I stuck with it. I’m tremendously and forever grateful to my extraordinary team of partners, publishers, readers, friends and family for cheering me on and getting me through tough times. My support system freakin’ rules!
In the spirit of Thanksgiving and my overwhelming feeling of gratitude, I’m opening up the first round of giveaways for this book. I have 2 copies of the book to give away. Just leave a comment in response to this post telling me what you’re grateful for between now and Monday, 11/30. I’ll pick 2 random winners on Tuesday.

I’m grateful for finally finding the man of my dreams and eagerly awaiting starting the rest of my life with him. He has truly turned my life around and if it weren’t for him God only knows where or who I’d be.
I am grateful for so much this year. I’m am most thankful for my love, without whom nothing else this year would have been possible. My fiance and I were able to buy a home earlier this year, which is truly a blessing. In these tough economic times, and in the area of the country where we live, in which house prices are still high, I’m thankful that we had the means to be able to purchase this home, which is a perfect place to start our new family. Along with that, I’m thankful for our friends and family who made it all possible, and who continue to support us while we begin to plan and craft for our wedding.
The people in my life are what I am thankful for. I am also thankful for those who are no longer with us. It is such a precious time of year to appreciate and reflect on all that we have. Most in the US have so much relative to much of the world. What unites us is family and friends. thank you!
I am so thankful for my loving family and friends. And also, for my fiance, Kevin, who I would be lost without.
I am greatful for other people who are as thrifty as I am. I have no idea how people pay full price for wedding stuff & it means so much more if I make it! Thank you for all your wonderful ideas!!
I’m grateful I’m in school this semester and that financial aid came through. I’m grateful for a place to live, food to eat and clothing to wear. I’m also grateful for my family – especially my mother who has become like my best friend over this year. I’m also grateful for awesome friends who love me dearly. Most of all I’m grateful to God for granting all of this to me!!
Oh yeah, and I’m also grateful for blogs like this one that help budget-conscious brides create fabulous elements for their weddings!
I am thankful for: my incredibly loving and supportive family and friends, the roof over my head, the food on my table, being employed (and really loving the career that I am pursuing!), feeling loved every single day, knowing that this time next year I will officially be married to my best friend!!!
I am grateful for the people in my life that are always so willing to help me out. I am thankful for my wonderful family, I am thankful for my brothers and my mother, who will be there for me on my big day to walk me down the aisle since my dad will not be around to do so. I am thankful for the memories I have of a father who sacrificed so much so that his family could have the best life possible and would always be taken care of. I am thankful for my fiance who gets me, and encourages me to do my best and to always be true to myself, and is always there for me no matter what. And I must not forget my puppy Maliboo and our kitties too, who love of unconditionally!
I am grateful for my fabulous family and friends and our opportunity to be together for the holidays!
I’m grateful for life and all the sweet things it can bring. I’m doing my best to savor each and every day I get, even with the not-so-fun bumps that happen along the road.
Congrats on your book!
Congratulations on your book!
I am thankful that in this time of economic crisis, my family and my fiance’s family are still able to see the happy side of things despite all their loses. I am thankful that despite everything, our closest friends and family are healthy, relatively happy, and able to be excited about our impending marriage.
I’m grateful for the feeling of love that surrounds the holiday season. I’m also thankful for my family and friends who have helped me stay sane through the wedding planning process. I’m grateful that I will be married to the man I love and adore in less than six months!
Congrats on your book! How exciting!
I am so thankful for the cards life has dealt me. Even though life will have its ups and downs, one has to look at the positive things and not dwell on the negatives. Gotta find that silver lining! That being said, I’m most thankful for my fiance because we have worked through 9 long years of a long distance relationship (2000 miles across the country) and will finally be able to spend next thanksgiving together without having to part and go our separate ways at the end of it. He is the love of my life and the best person I know. Who wouldn’t be thankful for the end of a long separation and the start of a new chapter?
Cheers!
I am grateful for my future mother in law. She is the most kind, courageous, generous and loving person I know. I am thankful that she was placed in my life and that she is always there for me.
I’m blessed with having my best friend as my fiance’ and the love and support of my wonderful family and friends. I’m also grateful for all the resources, ideas, blogs and books available to help this decidedly non-traditional bride-to-be come up with DIY ideas! Unlike many women, I did not plan my “dream wedding” when I was a child nor did I think I would ever find The One. My fiance’ took me totally by surprise with his out-of-the-blue proposal, so I’ve had to take a crash course in wedding planning!
