I had a similar problem within a year of purchase with a Brothers All-in-One. It was still under extended warranty and they replaced the print head. Again, with in a year it happened again. This time, they had changed the insurance covering exempting the print head from coverage (gee, I wonder why). So I purchased a print head and installed it and the same thing kept happening. So I have a machine that I can fax from and scan to save on my machine, but can't print a darn thing.
The best printer I've ever purchased (2000), which is still printing great, is a HP PhotoSmart P1000. It prints anything that you toss at it. Plus, the high yield cartridges you can get for it are great for a heavy user. I've purchased other printers years years after this one that haven't lasted.
Thank for your update!
