Reader Question: Wedding Websites
Hey DIYers,
Reader Julied has a question that I don’t readily have an answer for. Perhaps you can help her out?
Do you know any easy way to set up a website and send out email invites that people can reply to online and it all be kept upto date on a database – so that invites can be kept to a minimum – I guess I could get my own done – but it would be great if someones done it already!

Presently we have the ability for you to send out messages to a contact list and your guests can RSVP on your website. It is a more open approach to invitations that can also be used for general announcements too. You also get an entire wedding website with photo galleries, gift registry, wedding party page, events, accommodations, etc. And, it’s free, so no monetary risk involved.
Is it possible to use Evite for your invites so you can get yes, no, maybe and replies? You can include a link from your weblog (xanga, theknot, etc.) and they can get updates there!

You can categorize your guest list, enter all your events, keep up with gifts…I could go on. My favorite feature: you can export any of your lists to an excel file. Are you kidding me? I recommend http://www.theknot.com, it’s free and you can have your wedding website there, a guest list, send out electronic save-the-date, newsletters/e-mails with updates, have images, do your budget, have people RSVP there, etc. It’s a great tool, check it out!! The designs the have for any of this tools are very cute
I knw some other people use teh weddingchannel.com but my friend had many issues when she used it and her website was never functional. On the other hand mine works!!!

Ps: if you just need to send electronic invites to people foer all types or gatherings, use evite.com, it’s easy to use and a lot of people are familiar with it, so they know how to RSVP, etc.

http://www.theweddingtracker.com gets my vote. If you sign up through the link on weddingchannel.com then the price is only $30 (half-price). It’s really user-friendly and you get a guest book and online rsvp function. We got our own web site address with it for free (tomandlaura2008.com) and we’re getting tons of compliments from our friends and family. Good luck!!

I saw Daniel’s message and set up a website today, and I love it. It was fast and easy, and it has all the features of other sites but it was free!
I just heard about http://nearlyweds.com/, not a hundred percent on everything they do, but I think it might fit the bill for you.
I also just saw Daniel’s message and started setting up a site. I’ve actually started a few on various domains (weddingchannel.com, theknot.com, etc.), but I usually find something I don’t like and don’t finish it. I’ve been working on my mywedding.com page, and so far I love it! Very nice interface and some lovely templates. Thanks for the recommendation!
ourweddingday.com. It’s free and it provides an RSVP, event planning, table assignment and an online guestbook. If you wanted a wedding website, it provides this as well. Good luck!
We purchased our own domain and got the cheapest hosting at GoDaddy.com (~$5/month). From there you can install Wordpress, a free blogging software. There are free templates all over the place- we found one we wanted and modified it a bit to our tastes. We added a forum for our guests by installing Joomla (also free). This is a bit more time consuming than the free sites out there, but you have a lot more flexibility in what you do…
I just recalled, you can also get a free page straight at the wordpress website. That’s what another friend of mine did & it works well.
I used weddingannouncer.com. Its free and they have nice planning tools too.
We chose http://www.mywedding.com, its FREE, allows you to play music, very user friend, tons of design templates, and it will allow you to do everything from invitation emails, RSVPs, and blogs all through the website.
We are using WedShare.com and they have exactly what you’re looking for. We designed our own Save-the-Dates e-cards, and are planning on sending an e-Invitation for our wedding, it has the capability for guests to RSVP online through our website right from the e-Card. All RSVPs are managed online too. The service includes your own domain name for free.
We love it and it’s super easy!!!
