During the NYC trip to shoot the 1st half of the book way back in October 2006, the first thing our shuttle driver had to say was how crazy the city was due to the Will Smith shoot. DIYHusband and I didn’t see any sign of any film shoot - let alone Mr. Smith - on our way from the airport to our hotel and promptly forgot about it while we began to enjoy our first day in NYC. But the next day…On the way back to the photographer’s studio from our shoot in Central Park, my taxi passed a street that was blocked off for the Will Smith movie. Aha! It did exist. All of us in the car saw some of the set as we sped by and I thought that was pretty cool. Coincidently, DIYHusband was on foot in the same area doing some exploring and he had his camera. He got some shots of the props on the street AND one the Fresh Prince himself. The movie shoot was I Am Legend (saw it this weekend and highly recommend it).
Since he was shooting in NYC at the same time I was shooting in NYC, that makes us practically related, right? And I figure his good fortune is a good omen for me. Ha!
There’s really no point to this other than to share a fun memory of creating the DIY Bride book.
