At the end of each project, I compare what it’d cost you to buy a ready-made/commercial version versus the cost to do-it-yourself. I think you’ll be very surprised at how much cash you can save. Today is the official release date for the DIY Bride book! I’m so excited, I can’t stand it!

Thanks to all of my friends and family who’ve forwarded me their Amazon shipping notices. (What a fun thing to share with me!)

Thank you to everyone who entered the Win The DIY Bride Book contest. I received more entries than I anticipated so it’s taking a little longer than I had expected to get through them all. Today’s sneak peak is among my all-time favorite DIY projects and it was one of the most fun to photograph. {Check out the Split Bamboo Centerpiece below.}
We shot this project, the Split Bamboo Centerpiece, at the ultra cool Metropolitan Building in Long Island City/Queens (if you’re looking for a reasonably priced venue in the NYC area, do check this place out!) and originally had another theme in mind for the display. When we got on location all of us – photographer, stylist, editorial team – fell in love with this really neat alcove in one of the Met’s rooms. The ginormous Buddha head, oriental rugs, and silk pillows were already in place so we took advance of the great setting. Hooray for spontanaeity!

Are you ready for the first peek? Check out the Buds and Blossoms Bridal Bag below.

Instead of carrying a traditional nosegay down the aisle, wouldn’t it be fun to carry a handbag-shaped bouquet? Here’s a low-res picture of the project intro plus a shot of the beautiful Buds and Blossom Bridal Bag.

During the NYC trip to shoot the 1st half of the book way back in October 2006, the first thing our shuttle driver had to say was how crazy the city was due to the Will Smith shoot. DIYHusband and I didn’t see any sign of any film shoot – let alone Mr. Smith – on our way from the airport to our hotel and promptly forgot about it while we began to enjoy our first day in NYC.
